Mandate to collate and assign to Malachy Omechar, priest, of the diocese of Cashel, priest, the perpetual vicarages, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, of the parish churches of Killeue and Bernan in the said diocese, the former of which is void because Dermit Okayl when holding it obtained the latter, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, and the latter of which is void by ‘Execrabilis,’ and therefore ipso facto reserved, because the said Dermit held it for more than a month, even for about a year, together with the former, without having obtained any dispensation, the said Dermit still continuing to detain them together without any canonical title; summoning and removing Dermit, seeing that, on account of the inordinate favours with which he is supported in the city and diocese of Cashel, Malachy has no hope of obtaining justice therein: whether they be void as stated, or by the death of Donald Ykall, priest, or by the non-promotion of the said Dermit to the priesthood within the lawful time, or by the resignation of the late Philip Ykall, priest, or of one of them, or in any other way. Malachy is hereby specially dispensed to receive and retain together for life the said vicarages which, as he alleges, are so near that they can be conveniently served by one man. Footnotes

  • 1. On the back of the volume is the usual modern label, in Italian: ‘Nicolò V. 1450. Anno 4. Lib. 2.’ A flyleaf has, in three different contemporary hands, ‘R(ecipe) Mar(celle?), A,’ [de Feletis], ‘Secundus de Beneficiis vacantibus anno quarto,’ and ‘Vidi.’ The same contemporary description occurs also, as usual, on the bottom edge of the volume, with the addition of the pope's style. The text embraces ff. 1-324.
  • 2. He is not hereby dispensed on account of his defect of orders.
  • 3. On ff. 69d-70d. is a mandate dated 1450, 4 Id. November (10 Nov.) anno 4, and addressed to the vidame of Reims and the officials of Coutances and Bayeux, to collate and assign to William Jeromie, priest, of the diocese of Coutances, the parish church of Ste. Marie du Catel (de Castello) in the island of Guernsey (Insule Guernesii) in the said diocese, value not exceeding 24l. of petits tournois, void by the death of John Noriot. Cf. below, p. 496, note.
  • 4. The ‘ird’ is indistinctly written.
  • 5. se seuis immiscere ac cum gentibus armigeris associare et cum eis arma exercendo in bello publico quendam hominem eciam manibus propriis interficiendo homicidium perpetrare non expauit.
  • 6. irretitus et pernotatus.
  • 7. The ground on which the pope claims to make the collation is not stated.
  • 8. The date of the next following letter gives the pope at S. Maria Maggiore on the same day, 14 Nov. 1450. The latter is more probably correct, as the scribe would be more likely to write mechanically the constantly recurring and almost normal ‘St. Peter's, Rome.’
  • 9. sine cuiusvis curis amminiculo.
  • 10.
