To John Cok, a canon of Killala (Aladen.) Mandate (the pope having been informed by Thomas Odoyud, perpetual vicar of Ro[s]sterg in the diocese of Killala, that William Omachan, perpetual vicar of St. Mary's, Rabranny, in the said diocese, an open and notorious fornicator, has committed simony, and on account of his ignorance of letters has neglected the cure of the souls of the parishioners, and does not know how (ignorat) to administer the sacraments to them), if and after Thomas accuses William before the above canon, to summon William, and if he find the foregoing to be true, and if he find Thomas fit, to deprive and remove William, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage of St. Mary's, value not exceeding 5 marks sterling, to Thomas; notwithstanding that he holds that of Rossterg, value not exceeding 1 mark sterling, and a certain perpetual benefice without cure called a prebend in the said church of Rossterg, which is otherwise called the chancellorship of Killala, (fn. 2) value not exceeding 2 marks sterling. To the dean and the chancellor of Limerick and Matthew Ogriffa, a canon of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to William Ogillaschannan, priest, of the diocese of Killaloe (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure and who, having in virtue thereof been so promoted, obtained by canonical collation a certain perpetual portion with cure in the collegiate church of In[i]skat[h]id in the said diocese, which he afterwards resigned) the perpetual vicarage of Seangola in the diocese of Limerick, value not exceeding 7 marks sterling, void because Laurence Okrillid [sic] obtained, collated to him by authority of the ordinary, a perpetual portion with cure in the said church of In[i]skathid, called [the portion] of Kilgebam, although the said Laurence, who is to be summoned and removed, has unduly detained the said vicarage together with the said portion for more than five years without canonical dispensation; whether the vicarage be void as above, or by the death of Maurice Ydicag (fn. 3) or by the resignation of John Mecheachin, or be void in any other way. (fn. 4) Mandate to collate and assign to John Omurrehech, perpetual vicar of Maychawnach in the diocese of Limerick, the rural portions of Dongadamond and Donyrish within the bounds of the parish church of Bellemgady [sic] in the said diocese, without cure and value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, void at the apostolic see, and therefore reserved, by the promotion made by the pope of William bishop of Limerick, to that church, and by his consecration which was administered to him by the pope's order at the said see; whether it be so void, or by the death of Nicholas Whit, or by the resignation of the said bishop, or in any other way; notwithstanding that he holds the said vicarage, value not exceeding 10 marks sterling. Mandate to collate and assign to John Oscolay, clerk, of the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), the perpetual vicarage of Kyllmyn alias Kyllatuail in the diocese of Ardfert, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, void because Donald Ogallayn held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest and without dispensation, although the said Donald, who is a clerk of the said diocese [of Ardfert], and who is to be summoned and removed, has wrongfully detained possession for about two years after the lapse of the said year; whether it be void as above, or by the death of Thady Igrane, or by the resignation of the said Donald, or in any other way. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Gerald Machand alias Fuyt, clerk, of the diocese of Cloyne (Cluonen.), that Richard Pursel, canon of Cloyne, and Matthew Omulruonyd, perpetual vicar of Cogem Rayt in the said diocese, who are open fornicators, have dilapidated etc. the goods, namely, Richard of his canonry of Cloyne and prebend of Clueini and Matthew of the said vicarage) if and after Gerald (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents, to be promoted to all [even holy] orders and hold a benefice even with cure, after which he had himself in virtue thereof made a clerk, and who from fear of the power of the said Richard and Matthew cannot safely meet them within the city and diocese of Cloyne) accuses Richard and Matthew before the above three, to summon them, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove them, and in that event to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend and vicarage, value not exceeding 8 and 5 marks sterling respectively, to Gerald, whom the pope hereby dispenses to receive and retain them, and to resign them, simply or for exchange, and hold instead [two] other compatible benefices, notwithstanding the said defect etc. Vite etc. (P. and H. Mandate to collate and assign to Robert de Valle, clerk, of the diocese of Limerick, who is by both parents of noble birth, the perpetual vicarage of Corcomohet in the said diocese, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, so long void by the death of Maurice Brehnach that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although William Oronain, priest, of the said diocese, who is to be summoned and removed, has for more than two years detained possession of it without any title; whether it be void as stated, or by the death of John Ikalhil, or by the resignation of the said Maurice, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that the pope recently granted to Robert provision of a canonry of Limerick and the prebend of Tulachbroke, value not exceeding 16 marks sterling. To the abbot of St. Finbar's Cave (de Antro [Sancti Findbarii, i.e. Gill abbey]) in the diocese of Cork, the dean of Cork, and Donald Omongayn, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Donald Ocochlayn, clerk, of the diocese of Cork, that Donatus Omychigayn alias Ocochlayn, perpetual vicar of St. Brandan's, Kyllmo alias Killmochot, in the said diocese, an open and notorious fornicator, has committed simony by paying a sum of money for the making to him of collation and provision of the said vicarage, and has neglected the cure of the parishioners on account of his ignorance of letters, if and after Donald (who was lately dispensed by papal authority, on account of illegitimacy as the son of unmarried parents related in the fourth degree of affinity, to be promoted to all even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure) accuses Donatus before the above three, to summon Donatus, and if they find the foregoing, or one of them sufficient for the purpose to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the vicarage, value not exceeding 12 marks sterling, to Donald; whether it become void by such deprivation, or be void by the resignation of the said Donatus, or by the death of John Yco[c]hlayn or his nonpromotion within the statutory time, or in any other way. Mandate to collate and assign to John Okayll, (fn. 5) a canon of Emly, the rectory of Garra in the diocese of Emly, of lay patronage and value not exceeding 3 marks sterling, so long void, because Maurice Olongayn, of the diocese of Limerick, having canonically obtained it, held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest, and without dispensation for the purpose, that by the Lateran statutes its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although John Oconyurke, (fn. 6) priest, of the diocese of Emly, who is to be summoned and removed, has for more than two years but less than three wrongfully detained possession; whether it be void as stated, or by the resignation of Maurice Yhachuasa alias Ylebayn, or in any other way, and notwithstanding that John holds a canonry of Emly and the prebend of Kyllynnageny therein, value not exceeding 3 marks sterling. To Matthew Ogriffa, a canon of Limerick. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Maurice Ocamayn, priest, of the diocese of Limerick, contained that provision was formerly made to him by authority of the ordinary of the perpetual vicarage of Cloynellty in the said diocese on its voidance in a certain way [not here expressed], and that in virtue thereof he obtained possession, but that (after he had held it for some time in peace, upon Dermit Okahill, priest, of the diocese of Ardfert, falsely informing the present pope that it had become void because the late Thomas Omulcorcra, having obtained it on its voidance in a certain way [not here expressed], had held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest and without dispensation, although the above Maurice had unlawfully detained possession of it for about a year without any canonical title or other title of right) the pope ordered the bishop of Emly and two others [not here named], seeing that, as Dermit falsely alleged, from fear of the power of Maurice he could not safely meet him in the city and diocese of Limerick, to summon Maurice and others concerned, and if they found the foregoing to be true, to collate and assign the vicarage to Dermit; and that under pretext of the said mandate Dermit brought Maurice before William bishop of Emly, by whom an unjust definitive sentence was promulgated against Maurice, who appealed therefrom to the apostolic see and obtained letters of the pope to the above-named canon and two others [not here named]. At the said petition, which added that it is alleged that neither Maurice nor Dermit has any right in or to the vicarage, the pope hereby orders the above canon to summon Dermit and others concerned, and, after the said appeal cause has been lawfully introduced before him, and if he find by the result of the suit that neither Maurice nor Dermit has any such right, to collate and assign the vicarage, value not exceeding 6 marks sterling, to Maurice, whether it be void as above, or by the death of William Hamand, or in any other way.
