To the dean of Kilmore (Celmoren.) and Thomas Osyredan and John Ogoband, canons of the same. Mandate as below. The recent petition of Henry Osulichan. priest, of [the diocese of] Ardagh, contained that formerly Cormac, bishop, and the chapter of Ardagh separated the church or chapel of St. Columba, Inismor alias Lochagana, in the said [sic] diocese, which was one of the five churches or chapels subject to the parish church of St. Mary Granard (de Grana[r]do) in the same diocese, from that church, and, with consent of the then rector or perpetual vicar thereof, erected it into a parish church to be ruled by a perpetual vicar instituted by the bishop and chapter of Ardagh; and added that since the said separation and erection no one has been instituted as perpetual vicar of the said church of St. Columba except Eugenius Macmurcerthyd, (fn. 2) priest, of the said diocese, who, after he had held it for some time, abandoned it. Seeing that, as the pope has learned, the said church of St. Columba, or its perpetual vicarage, is therefore void, although William Offergaill, clerk, of the same diocese, has, under pretext of certain apostolic letters, in which he made no mention of the said separation and erection, obtained possession of the said church of St. Mary, to which he falsely alleged that the said church of St. Columba or its vicarage was united, and has detained possession for more than a year but less than two years, the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said William and Eugenius, from fear of whose power the said Henry cannot safely meet them within the city and diocese of Ardagh, and if they find that the separation and erection were made for reasonable causes, and that the said church of St. Columba or its perpetual vicarage, value not exceeding 14 marks sterling, is void as above or in any other way, to approve and confirm the separation and erection, and to collate and assign the church of St. Columba or its vicarage to Henry.
