1 Paul II.

De Prebendis Vacantibus.

1465.
Non. Aug.
(5 Aug.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 148.)
To the bishop of St. Andrews, the abbot of Scone in the diocese of St. Andrews, and the dean of the church of St. Maurice without the walls of Münster. Mandate to collate and assign to Patrick Ogilwy, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, licentiate in arts, who alleges that he is by both parents of a race of barons, a canonry of Glasgow and the prebend of Eglisam therein, which is of the patronage of the temporal lord of the place of Montegomorre in the diocese of Glasgow, value not exceeding 30l. sterling, void at the apostolic see by the death there of John de Montegomorre, the pope hereby specially, and for this turn only, derogating from the said right of patronage. Nobilitas generis, vite etc. (H. and Ja. Bigneti. | H. xxx. Expedita duodecimo Kal.Septembris Anno Primo. Folani.) [4 pp. +.]
5 Id. June.
(9 June.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 170.)
To the abbot of Coupar-Angus (de Cupro) in the diocese of St. Andrews. Mandate to collate and assign to Thomas Lyel, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, M.A., a canonry of Dunkeld and the prebend of Ferne in the said diocese [sic], value with their annexes not exceeding 9l. sterling, void by the death of Gavin Hamelton. Dignum arbitramur. (H. and Ja. Bigneti. | H. xxii. Expedita decimo Kal. Julii Anno Primo. Folani.) [3 pp.]
19 Kal. Sept.
(14 Aug.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 190.)
To William Ocarnean, canon of Tuam. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Donatus Ochanyn, archdeacon of Clonfert, that Edmund de Burgo, canon of Tuam, openly and notoriously keeps a concubine, (fn. 2) dilapidates the goods both of his canonry and prebend of Cylmyan in Tuam and of the rectory of the parish church of Lochryach in the diocese of Clonfert, neglects the canonical hours both day and night, cultivates his hair and a long beard, (fn. 3) has been present at many homicides and mutilations of men's limbs, and has helped the perpetrators thereof. The pope therefore hereby orders the above canon, if the said Donatus (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of an abbot, O.S.A., in priest's orders, and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold a benefice even with cure, and who afterwards, in virtue of another papal dispensation, obtained the archdeaconry of Clonfert, a major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 16 marks of silver) will accuse the said Edmund before the said canon, to summon Edmund and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove Edmund, and in that event to collate and assign the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 8 like marks, to Donatus. He is hereby specially dispensed, notwithstanding the said defect etc., to receive them, and to retain them together with the said archdeaconry. Dignum etc. (H. and Ja. Pratus. H. xxvi. Expedita Quarto Kal. Octobris Anno Secundo. Folani.) [3⅓ pp.]
7 Id. June.
(7 June.)
St. Peter's, Rome.
(f. 243.)
To the prior of St. Mary's alias St. Tiernan's (Sancti Tirnani), Achmadhcarrt, in the diocese of Ossory. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that a canonry of Ossory and the prebend of Clonhuariach therein have been so long void that there is no certain knowledge of their last mode of voidance, and that by the Lateran statutes their collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Robert Sall, clerk, has detained them for between one and two years under pretext of a collation made by authority of the ordinary after the said lapse; and the recent petition of Patrick Purcel, rector of the parish church of Callam (fn. 4) alias Kilbride in the diocese of Ossory, contained that if the said rectory were united for his lifetime to the said canonry and prebend, value not exceeding 40 and 8 marks sterling respectively, he could be more becomingly maintained. The pope therefore hereby orders the above prior to summon the said Robert and others concerned, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to unite the rectory to the canonry and prebend for Patrick's lifetime, and to collate and assign the canonry and prebend to him, who is, as he alleges, of a noble race of princes, barons and knights, and has studied canon and civil law in a university and in a non-university place. (fn. 5) Iniunctum nobis. (N. and M. Amici. | N. xxvi.Expedita Sexto Idus Julii Anno Primo. de Bonaparte.) [4 pp.]
