1422. 10 Kal. May. St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 135d.)	To the bishop of Alet, the abbot of Dere and the prior of Monymoske in the diocese of Aberdeen. Mandate (at the recent petition of Master Thomas de Tynynghan, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, papal chaplain, containing that formerly he and the late David Fauconer, priest, papal chaplain, desiring to exchange their respective benefices, namely the parish church of Sfethirressow (sic) in the said diocese and the archdeaconry of Aberdeen, claiming that they had special power from the apostolic see for the purpose, resigned them to the late Gilbert, bishop of Aberdeen, who, having like power from the late Henry, bishop of St. Andrews, carried out the exchange, making the respective collations and provisions; and that Thomas doubts whether the collation and provision made to him of the said archdeaconry, of which he is still in possession, holds good) to collate and assign to Thomas the said archdeaconry, still void, a non-major elective dignity with cure, value not exceeding 40l. sterling, whether it become void as above, or by the death of John de Lichton or otherwise. 5 Non. Oct. S. Maria Maggiore, Rome. (f. 136d.)	To the bishop of Aberdeen. Mandate—at the recent petition of the provost and bailies of the town (villa) of Alberden (sic) in the diocese of Aberdeen, containing that the late William de Meldrome, lord of Achneiffe and Pecarry in the said diocese, founded and endowed from his lands and rents a perpetual chaplaincy at the altar of SS. Ninian and Laurence in the choir of the parish church of St. Nicholas in the said town, and ordained that neither himself nor his heirs could claim the right of alienating from the said altar such lands and rents, and that the right of patronage or presenting to the said altar should belong for the first time to himself and his heirs, and thereafter to the said provost and bailies; that subsequently the late Thomas de Meldrome, William's heir, violently usurped the said lands and rents, wherefore the late Gilbert, bishop of Aberdeen, at the instance of the provost and bailies, warned and ordered him to desist from his usurpation, or to appear before him and allege cause, and upon his contumacy publicly excommunicated him; that Thomas died, without being absolved and without making restitution, and that his heir, William de Meldrome, is striving to continue the usurpation—to summon the said William and others concerned, and if he find the facts to be as stated, to warn and induce him, under pain of excommunication, to observe the will and ordinance of the said founder.
