of premises as follow for 99 years concurrent with
the terms now in being and at the present reserved
rents of 10s. and 6s. 8d., with clauses of re-assumption
as in the two precedent leases as follow and with
covenant not to build thereon save by the King's
or Treasury Lords' leave. And whereas there was
a clause in the last lease that the leaden pipe which
is the chief aqueduct to Whitehall and St. James's
should be removed without the brick wall of the
premises at the lessee's charge, a clause is to be
inserted in the new lease as herein, that it is to
be forthwith done, not having been yet performed.

R. Marriott, deputy auditor : (a) a piece of ground
inclosed by a wall lying within St. James's Park,

them 1685, Dec. 6, for 31 years at a rent of 10s.

The Treasury Lords to Monsieur Schylenberg. We
have received yours of the 10-20th courant and
hoped it would have brought us an account how
the exc[hange] ruled at the respective time of your
drawing the several bills and the charge of your
provisions [? cost of bills] etc. ; the rather because
the Earl of Ranelagh by our directions some weeks
past writ to you to hasten the same and without
which 'tis utterly impossible to come to a final
determination of your accounts. However, we have
caused a state of the whole to be made according
to the best information we can get on this side and
herewith transmit you a copy thereof, whereby it
appears that the difference between our and your
computation amounts to 161,945 guilders 13d.,
which, at 11 guilders per £ sterling, makes
14,722l. 6s. 7½d. When you have adjusted these
matters and given us further light as to the exchange,
your provisions, bank etc., care shall be taken that
what remains due to you on the foot of your account
shall be paid to your correspondent here [in London]. |

Customs free, 450lb. weight of chocolate which on
the 16th Dec., 1689, she shipped on board the
Mary yacht in Holland ; which vessel for want of
convoy did not arrive in England until Jan. 18
following, and two days before such arrival an
Act [1 Wm. and Mary, Sess. 2, c. 6] was made
laying an additional duty of 5s. per lb. on all
chocolate imported before [sic for after] Dec. 25
then preceding : that the said chocolate not being
worth half the new imposition was brought
into the Customs warehouse, London port, where it
still remains : petitioner being a poor woman and
her whole substance for the relief of herself and
children consisting in the said goods, which now
lie in a perishing condition, she has prayed leave
to import it under the old duty or for permission
to export it free of duty ; which latter is hereby
granted in regard of the surprise she was under in
the laying of the new duty and in compassion to
her poverty. |

Royal warrant to the Earl of Ranelagh, Paymaster
of the Forces, authorising him to pay sums as in
the book as follows for work and other things for
the service of the Royal Hospital of Chelsea during
the 16 months ended 1689, April 30, according to
Treasury warrants, out of the two thirds of the
poundage deduction of 12d. per £ drawn from the
pay of the Forces within said period, as provided
for by the establishment of the Forces by the late
King James and in accordance with the royal
warrant of said King of 1686-7, Mar. 1 [supra,
Calendar of Treasury Books, Vol. VIII, p. 1232] :
all by reason that said Ranelagh's accounts for
said Hospital for the two years ended 1687 are
ready to be declared and that the succeeding account
will be for 16 months, 1687-8, Jan. 1, to 1689,
April 30, and in relation to the latter account the
Surveyor General [of the Works] has made up and
delivered to said Earl a book in the usual form as
to what has been expended in said period in building
and finishing the said Hospital, the said book
containing the particular accounts of the several
artificers, with the prices duly certified by said
Surveyor, but it appearing that the said sum is
greater for the proportion of the time than the former
book by reason that part of the work done in the
precedent year is charged in the said later account,
some of the workmen having omitted to bring in
their bills before the book of the preceding year
was closed ; also by reason that the late King James
towards the latter end of 1687 gave positive direction
to have the Hospital finished and all the additional
buildings necessary thereto erected with all possible
speed. |
