years at 20s. per an. rent and fine of 50l.
Prefixing : report by William Harbord, Surveyor

for same. Petitioner has enjoyed said lands by
lease from the Warden of the Forest and has been
forced to renew upon every death or removal of
the Warden : thus he paid 75l. to the Earl of Gainsborough,
90l. to the Duke of Berwick (though
enjoying the premises not a full year under him)
and has agreed to pay the Duke of Bolton, the
present Warden, 150l. He has bestowed cost in
building and the residence is convenient for the
duty of his office. It is valued at 16l. 15s. 0d.
per an. The Duke of Bolton consents to the
petitioner obtaining a Crown lease. |

Treasury to order the taking in of loans at the Receipt
on or before Jan. 1 next, pursuant to the
borrowing clauses in the Act [3 Wm. and Mary, c. 6]
for the Poll, viz. to a total of 735,391l. 18s. 5½d. : the
said Act having provided that if the yield of
the four quarters of said Poll should appear from the
returns of the duplicates not to amount to 1,341,700l.
that then the amount short of that sum might be
borrowed at any time before 1692-3, Jan. 1, on
credit of the Exchequer in general at 7 per cent.,
payable quarterly ; and upon computing the amount
of the duplicates for the first two quarterly payments
of the Poll it appears that the total yield
of the Poll will not exceed 606,308l. 1s. 6½d., thus
leaving 735,391l. 18s. 5½d. short of the said total
of 1,341,700l. Tallies of loan are to be made out
and the orders of repayment made thereupon are
to be registered in course and to be repaid out of the
next supply that shall be granted by Parliament,
and if no such supply be granted then the same
are hereby to be repaid out of any unappropriated
moneys which from thenceforth shall come into or
be in the Exchequer. |

Treasury warrant to the lessees of the manor of Neots
(Neats) Court, the tenants in possession and all others
concerned, to pay to Dorothy Cutts 83l. 15s. 0d.,
representing arrears on a rent charge as follows,
viz. : about 140 years ago Sir Thomas Cheyne was
seized of an annuity or rent charge of 6l. 14s. 0d.
issuing out of eight parcels of land and chargeable
also on the manor of Neots Court in the Isle of
Sheppey by the conveyance of one William Bury ;
the said Bury did afterwards convey to Henry VIII
in fee the said manor and the other lands out of
which said rent was issuing, but subject to the
said rent charge, and same have ever since remained
in possession of the Crown, save in the late times
of usurpation and [the said rent charge has been]
constantly paid out of Crown revenues and charged
by the Auditor upon the profits of said manor, until
within these 14 years past the said manor and
lands formed part of Queen Dowager Katherine's
dowry whose assignees covenanted to discharge all
rents thereon ; wherefore said rent has been denied to
be paid by the Auditor : the said Dorothy Cutts is
entitled to the said rent by mesne conveyances from

parcel of ground lying between King Street and
Swallow Street [Westminster], containing 1 road 31½
perches, being 96 foot in front next King Street and
about 200 foot deep, on which plot the Bishop of Lincoln
built a chapel or Tabernacle now used for the
worship of God and a house for a schoolmaster,
which said Bishop designed and hath been hitherto
used for public benefit : all with a view to a grant
to the said Bishop in free and common socage for
ever of the said premises with all that tenement
now in the tenure of Ambrose Warren and all other
edifices built on the said ground ; and for a particular
similarly of a second plot or premises as below,
with a view to a lease thereof to said Bishop for
99 years from 1722-3, Feb., at the rent of 20s.

In May, 1680, Sir William Pulteney petitioned for
a close of land near Piccadilly called the Six Acre
Close (whereof these premises are part), which
Pulteney then held by two leases from the Earl of
St. Albans, dated 1661, April 1, and from Charles II,
dated 1688 [? 1678], Aug. 11. The Bishop bought
the interests of Pulteney and of Mris. Lucar and
Mris. Wilcox, his under tenants, and built thereon
a chapel and a tabernacle and a house for a schoolmaster
on the north-east end next King Street
and behind the said tabernacle there is a small
tenement in the possession of the under-school-master,
the said chapel being made use of for a
school and other public benefit. On the south-east
side this ground extends 206 feet from King
Street to Swallow Street, and on the north-west
side 197 feet, and is 96 feet [broad] at the end
next King Street, where the tabernacle etc. are
built, and 96 feet next Swallow Street : some parts
lying near Swallow Street are waste and unbuilt.
(c) Report by said Tailer, dated Aug. 8, on a petition
[from said Bishop] concerning a piece of land
96 feet in front next King Street and 200 feet deep
(and adjoining the above said first piece of land)
abutting north-west on the house of Thomas Davis,
cordwainer, and Thomas Lawrence, carpenter, and
abutting south-east on the ground and garden wall
of Widow Hide and Thomas Beake. The ground
is worth 10s. a foot if converted to common use
by building tenements, in regard there are now
many other new buildings inhabited near the same.
In 1680 the Surveyor General valued the whole
Six Acre Close (of which the plot forms not a twelfth
part) at 30l. per an. unbuilt. I value the Crown
reversion at 288l. |

the establishment dated 1690, June 1, of the Forces
in England there is allowed 1,177l. 2s. 6d. [per an.]
for the pay and entertainment of one Foot Company
in the Leeward Islands, consisting of 60 private
soldiers besides officers, whereof Capt. Hill and
Governor of St. Christopher is Captain. Towards
the subsistence of this Company and of the Duke
of Bolton's Regiment in those parts, it was ordered
that the Four and a Half per cent. Duty (which in
time of peace may amount to about 10,000l. per an.)
should be applied after first providing for the cost
of the Government in Barbados and the Leeward
Islands ; and the remainder of their pay should
be satisfied by the Paymaster General of the Forces
in England. But on the 28th Jan., 1691-2, upon
a presentment from the Customs Commissioners
shewing that their Majesties had been sufficiently
losers by the said application [of revenue], and that
the soldiers had been greatly distressed for want of
their pay, in regard the commodities in which the
said Duty was paid had lain dead in the merchants'
hands for many months together, it was ordered
in Council that the goods received for the same
should be sent into England and sold here. As
to the payments that have been made to that
Company since the time of their having been upon
the establishment of the Forces here in England,
I do not find that they have been cleared beyond the
1st of Jan., 1690-1, or that any money has been paid
to them since that time. The Earl of Ranelagh as
Paymaster of the Forces can more plainly certify this. |

for the like term at 13s. 4d. per an. The said terms
are long since expired and no subsequent grant
appears. There is sufficient evidence of the Crown's

granted by Queen Elizabeth in 1599 were a close

Essex. The premises have been concealed from the

The Treasury Lords to Sir William Phips, kt., Captain

Massachusetts Bay in New England. The King
has been pleased to send a squadron of ships of
war to the West Indies under the command of
Sir Fra. Wheeler, together with a considerable
number of land Forces to be commanded by Col.
Foulks, for the greater security of the Plantations.
During their continuance in those parts they must
be frequently supplied with provisions which cannot
be furnished from hence with so much convenience
as from the several Plantations. On the application
of the Commissaries or agents of said Wheeler or
Foulke you are to furnish them with provisions
or credit with the Province of Massachusetts Bay
and the adjacent Colonies, drawing bills on the
Navy Commissioners in settlement. We will direct
