To the abbot of Kynlos in the diocese of Moray, the dean of Moray, and David L[a]uderdal, a canon of the same. Mandate (the pope having been informed by Gavin Dunbar, clerk, of the diocese of Moray, M.A., that Thomas Foster, prior of Pluscardy[n], O.S.B., in the said diocese, has alienated the goods thereof, kept a concubine by whom he has had offspring still living, committed sacrilege and adultery, etc., and consented to homicide) if Gavin, who is of noble birth, will accuse Thomas before them, to summon Thomas, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to grant the said priory, conventual and value not exceeding 60l. sterling, to Gavin in commendam for six months from his taking the habit, and thereafter to cause him to be received as a monk, give him the habit and receive his profession, and make him collation and provision of the said priory. To the prior of Monaincha (Insula Viventium) in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.), the chancellor of Killaloe, and William Oduygin, a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of Maurice Ofaelan, (fn. 1) clerk, of the diocese of Cloyne (Clonen.), contained that provision was made by papal authority to Maurice Odonorchy of the rectory of Macheanath in the diocese of Limerick, then void; that the rectory of Rathkaill alias Monachagahy in the said diocese of Limerick, also then void, was united by papal authority for his lifetime to that of Macheanath, for as long as he should hold the latter; and that he bound himself to pay the annates of the said churches, but has not done so, wherefore the union of the said churches, which are of lay patronage, is ipso facto dissolved, and the rectories themselves void, although the said Maurice Odonorchy has without title detained them for between six and nine years. The said petition adding that the said Maurice Offaelan could not subsist etc. and maintain hospitality according to the Irish manner with the fruits of Macheanath alone, the pope hereby orders the above three to summon Odonorchy, declare him excommunicate and deprived, declare the said union dissolved, and the said rectories void, and, in that event to collate and assign the said rectory of Macheanath to Ofaelan (who, notwithstanding his illegitimacy as the son of an unmarried man and an unmarried or married woman, has been made a clerk), and to unite to it that of Rothkaill (sic), value 16 and 24 marks sterling, respectively, and only about 2 miles distant from one another, for such time as he shall hold Macheanath; with dispensation on account of the said defect, etc. Apostolice sedis.
