De Beneficiis Vacantibus.



1471. Prid. Non. Nov. (4 Nov.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 47v.)	To the prior of Inis Cronan in the diocese of Killaloe (Laon[i]en.], the archdeacon of Killaloe [Laon[i]en.), and Dermit Obryeyn, a canon of the same. Mandate as below. The pope has been informed by Malachy Omuelayn, clerk, of the diocese of Killaloe, that Maurice Odamyn, perpetual vicar of Kyllakyde in the said diocese, a notorious fornicator, has neglected to abstain from such fornication even after special monition by authority of the ordinary, and has dilapidated many of the precious moveables of the said vicarage. The pope therefore orders the above three, if Malachy (who was lately dispensed by authority of the ordinary on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to minor orders and hold a benefice without cure, and who in virtue thereof has been made a clerk), will accuse Maurice before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 8 marks sterling, to Malachy. The pope hereby specially dispenses him to be promoted to all, even holy orders, and to receive and retain the said vicarage, and resign it, simply or for exchange. Vite ac morum. (At the end: N. xx. 4 Non. Dec. (2 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 49r.)	To John Kertelyng alias Boled, a monk of Edmund's de Bury, O.S.B., in the diocese of Norwich. Dispensation, so that if he, who has made his profession, and is of the lawful age to hold the abbatial dignity, be postulated or elected to be abbot of any other monastery, or to be prior, or to other dignity etc. in any monastery etc. of the said order, he may consent thereto, even without requiring licence of his abbot or other superior, and may prosecute the right arising therefrom. Religionis zelus, vite ac morum. [1¼ pp.]

Prid. Non. Nov. (4 Nov.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 115r.)	To the archdeacon of Killala (Alladen.), and John Offlangale and Thomas Omurchiu, canons of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Maurice Oduda, clerk, of the diocese of Killala, that John Macgranteor (?), (fn. 2) perpetual vicar de Ymlechiseell in the said diocese, when provision was by papal letters ordered to be made to him of the said vicarage (then void by the death of Donald Oluachi, and so long void that its collation had lapsed to the apostolic see), made a bargain with one of the papal judges, that if the latter would without further information make him provision of the said vicarage, deliver sentence in his favour, and induct him, he would pay him a sum of money, thereby incurring sentences of excommunication for simony, after which the said judge made him collation and provision, under pretext of which he obtained possession, and has held it, but not for more than a year. The pope therefore orders the above three, if Maurice will accuse John before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to declare the said collation and provision null, and remove John, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 6 marks sterling, to Maurice. 4 Non. Dec. (2 Dec.) St. Peter's, Rome. (f. 118r.)	To the dean of Kilmore, and John Machmaelmartain and Nemeas Odroma, canons of the same. Mandate to collate and assign to Niolanus Machgamrugain, clerk, of the diocese of Kilmore, who is by both parents of noble birth, the perpetual vicarage of St. Medocius de Innisbrechmaich, alias St. Mary's de Tempollinpont, in the said diocese, value 8 marks sterling, so long void that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see; howsoever it be void, even if by the late Cormac Machgamrugan's obtaining possession, by authority of the ordinary, of the priory of St. Mary, Drumlethan, O.S.A., in the said diocese, or by his resignation, or that of Bernard Yfaircheallaich.
