To the dean, the chancellor, and the treasurer of Ardfert. Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Donald Omagna, clerk, of the diocese of Leighlin (Legonen.), that William Ogillyhenayn, perpetual vicar of Sennagnolyn in the diocese of Limerick, has alienated and dilapidated divers immoveables and precious moveables of the said vicarage, and committed simony, and that he has by his neglect allowed a certain man of his parishioners to die without the sacraments. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three, if Donald (who from fear of William's power cannot safely meet him within the city or diocese of Limerick) will accuse William before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, value 8 marks sterling, to Donald. To the archdeacon, the treasurer, and the precentor (cantori) of Kilmacduagh (Duacen.). Mandate to collate and assign to Maurice Macgillauanach, clerk, of the diocese of Kilmacduagh (who was lately dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy orders and hold two benefices, even if one had cure or were a canonry and prebend in a cathedral church, after which, having been made a clerk, he obtained the perpetual vicarage of Meagrayd in the diocese of Annaghdown (Enachdunen.) and a canonry and prebend of Kilmacduagh, both of which benefices he has resigned), the rectory de Fvoaymuor (recte Furanmuor) in the said diocese of Annaghdown, value 12 marks sterling, of the patronage of laymen, from which patronage the pope derogates for this turn only, (fn. 3) void by the death at the apostolic see of Denis Macgillauanach. To the bishop and the treasurer of Ardfert, and Thomas Johannis, a canon of the same. Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that Hubert Stondwen (?) (fn. 4) has resigned extra R.c. the perpetual vicarage of Ryndweri (fn. 5)alias Aglasnalanduy in the diocese of Ardfert, although Remundus Fismoris, clerk, of the said diocese, has, under pretext of certain surreptitious papal letters, intruded himself and detained possession for a year. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three to admit the said resignation by papal authority, if not already lawfully admitted, summon the said Hubert (recte Remundus) and others concerned, (fn. 5) and, removing [the said Remundus and] (fn. 6) any unlawful detainer, to collate and assign the said vicarage, with cure and value not exceeding 8 marks sterling, to David Fismoris, chancellor of Ardfert, who is illegitimate, being the son of a deacon and an unmarried woman, and who, after he had been made a clerk, was dispensed by the tenor of certain letters of Pius II, ordering provision to be made to him of the chancellorship of Ardfert, a non-major non-elective dignity with cure, to receive and retain it, or, if he resigned it, to receive and retain any other benefice, even if with cure, and be promoted to all, even holy orders; who was afterwards dispensed to receive and retain for life with the said chancellorship the rectory of the said church of Rindweri, (fn. 7) if collated to him in virtue of the same letters, or, without it, any other benefice, even if a dignity etc., and resign them, simply or for exchange, as often as he pleased, in virtue of which latter dispensation he holds the said chancellorship and rectory, their value not exceeding 12 marks sterling; and whose father was of a race of barons, wont to help the indigent and show hospitality to the poor. (fn. 8) He is hereby specially dispensed to receive the said vicarage, and retain it for life with the said chancellorship and rectory, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite etc. (At the end: F. xx. To Henry Boys, priest, of the diocese of St. Andrews, M.A. Reservation to the pope's gift, for collation to him, who is also a bachelor in decrees, and was sent to the pope by James, king of Scots, in order to prosecute the below-mentioned promotion, of the perpetual vicarage of Lichtkou in the diocese of St. Andrews, value 20l. sterling, which is to become void by the pope's promotion of John, [bishop] elect of Glasgow, to that church, (fn. 9) and by the consecration which is to be conferred on him.
