To Donald Macrawan, a canon of Limerick. Mandate, as below. The recent petition of John [son] of Matthew Macconmara, a canon of Killaloe (Laonien.), contained that Matthew, bishop of Killaloe, with consent of the dean and chapter, created him a canon of the said church, and that the dean and chapter received him as a canon, and that the said bishop separated from the parish church of Cinithy a certain parcel or member of that church, called [the parcel] of Occosyn, namely, the rectory of the parish church of Kylmini in the diocese of Killaloe, with consent of the lay patron and of the rector of the said church de Cynithy, (fn. 2) erected the same by his ordinary authority into a prebend of the said church of Killaloe, and made collation and provision thereof to the said John; and that on the voidance in a certain way of the rectory of the parish church of Clonlaig alias Oblayd in the said diocese, the said bishop by the same authority united it to the said prebend for the lifetime of the said John. The said petition adding that there is a doubt about the force of the said erection, separation and union, and that the said John doubts whether the said collation and provision for the said and other reasons hold good, wherefore the said canonry and prebend are still void, as above, from their original erection and creation, the pope hereby orders the above canon to approve and confirm by papal authority the said erection, creation, separation and union, etc., and if he find fit the said John, who is by both parents of noble birth, to collate and assign to him the said canonry and prebend, value with their annexes not exceeding 20 marks sterling. Dignum etc. (At the end: C. xxx. Quarto Kal. Julii anno undecimo. Millinus.) [3 pp. +]

To the archdeacon of Kildare (Daren.). Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Thomas Macchostelwa alias Noygill, perpetual vicar of Leix (de Lega) in the diocese of Kildare, that Matthew Obythechayn, abbot of the monastery of St. Mary the Virgin de Rossglas alias de Rossewalle, O. Cist., in the said diocese, openly keeps a concubine by whom he has had offspring, and has also carnally known a certain nun expressly professed of the order of St. Bridget, and had offspring by her, (fn. 3) and has dilapidated the moveable goods of the said monastery. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above archdeacon, if the said Thomas will accuse the said Matthew before him, to summon the latter, and if he find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event, and if he find the said Thomas to be fit, to make provision to him of the said monastery, value 24 marks sterling, and moreover to cause him to be received as a monk thereof, and receive from him the regular profession wont to be made by monks of the same. To the abbot of St. Mary's, Ynisgad, and the priors of the secular and collegiate church of Yniskahe [sic] and the house of St. John Baptist by le Nenach, in the diocese of Killaloe (Laonien.). Mandate, as below. The pope has learned that the rectory of the parish churches of Druncleb [sic] and Kyllmalle in the diocese of Killaloe, called [the rectory] of Ocormayc, which is of lay patronage, viz. of the patronage of the prince of Thomond (Tonmonie), is void by the death of Donald Obryen, and that the perpetual vicarage of Kyllnamona in the said diocese is void by the death of Laurence Ogryffa [the elder], both extra R.c., and that the said rectory has been so long void that its collation has lapsed to the apostolic see, although Odo Ogryffa has de facto detained the said vicarage, void as above, for between twenty and thirty years, and still detains it, without any title. And the recent petition of Laurence Ygryffa, the younger, perpetual vicar of Cluondagad in the said diocese, contained that if the said rectory was erected into a simple prebend of the church of Killaloe, and provision were made to him of such prebend, and that if thereto the said vicarage of Kyllnamona were united for as long as he should hold such prebend, and also the said vicarage of Cluondagad, divine worship would be increased in the said church of Killaloe, and his condition would be improved. (fn. 5) At the said petition of the said Laurence, who alleges that the bishop and chapter of Killaloe are ready to give their consent to such erection and union, and that the values of the said rectory and vicarages of Kyllnamona and Cluondaged do not exceed 12, 4 and 8 marks sterling, respectively, and that he has been dispensed by papal authority on account of illegitimacy, as the son of a priest and an unmarried woman, to be promoted to all, even holy and priest's orders and hold a benefice even with cure, in virtue of which he was made a clerk and obtained by canonical collation the said vicarage of Cluondagad, the pope hereby orders the above three to summon the said bishop and chapter and Odo, and if they find the facts to be as stated, and if the said bishop and chapter consent, to erect the said rectory into a simple prebend of the church of Killaloe, for the lifetime only of the said Laurence the younger, and to collate and assign to him a canonry of Killaloe and such prebend, and moreover to unite the said vicarages of Kyllnamona and Cluondagad to such prebend, so that he may take possession of the former and continue his possession of the latter, and may retain them for as long only as he holds the said prebend; whether the said rectory and vicarage of Kyllnamona be void as above, or by the resignation of the said Donald and Laurence the elder, or the rectory be void because Donald held it for more than a year without having himself ordained priest and without dispensation, and even if the said vicarage of Kyllnamona be so long void that its collation has lapsed to the said see, etc. The pope moreover dispenses the said Laurence the younger to receive and retain the said canonry and prebend and vicarages, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Apostolice sedis prouidentia circumspecta.
