To the dean of Ardagh (Ardakaden.) and Maurice Ofergayl, a canon of the same. (fn. 2) Mandate, as below. The pope has been informed by Donatus Ofergayl, clerk, of the diocese of Ardagh, that William, also [named] Ofergayl, priest, perpetual vicar of the parish church of St. Mary de Grana[r]do in the said diocese, does not reside at the said church, nor serve it in divine offices, and has turned to his own unlawful and damnable uses and otherwise alienated its precious and other movables and immovables, has several times committed the crime of fornication and openly keeps a concubine, and that, although monished over and over again by the present bishop of Ardagh to put away the said concubine, he has not done so. The pope, therefore, hereby orders the above three or two or one of them, (fn. 3) if the said Donatus (who notwithstanding his illegitimacy, as the son of unmarried parents, nobles, related in the double fourth degree of kindred and the ninefold (fn. 4) fourth degree of affinity, has been made a clerk, and has been received by the said bishop and the chapter of Ardagh as a canon thereof), will accuse the said William before them, to summon the latter, and if they find the foregoing to be true, to deprive and remove him, and in that event to collate and assign the said vicarage, yearly value not exceeding 40 marks sterling, to the said Donatus. The pope specially dispenses him to be promoted to all, even holy orders and receive it, and any benefices with and without cure compatible with it and with one another, even if canonries and prebends, etc., and to retain them and the said canonry of Ardagh, notwithstanding the said defect, etc. Vite ac morum.
