Mr. Littleton, elected for Lemster, and Carnarvon, electeth for Carnarvan.

Grievances.

A Petition from Chapman, a Scrivener, read; about his Imprisonment for not paying his Assessment towards the Contract. Referred to the Committee for Grievances.

Ditto.

Sir Edw. Coke reporteth from the Committee for Grievances, the Case of the Merchants trading for Wines; about 20s. Impost upon a Tun of Wines. -

That the Committee, una voce, resolved, this new Imposition a Grievance, and so their Imprisonment: Resolved, a Petition to his Majesty, to take off this new Imposition; to release the Prisoners; and for Stay of any further Proceedings upon the Bonds returned into the Exchequer; and to have the same cancelled.

This re-committed to the Committee for Grievances.

Ditto.

A Petition from divers Citizens of London, about Assessing of Men for Setting out of Ships, according to the Rate [of] the Poor, and distraining for it. This also referred to the Committee for Grievances.

Ditto.

All Petitions of Grievance hereafter to be presented to the Committee of Grievance.

Recusants.

Mr. Secretary Coke reporteth from the Conference with the Lords; and delivereth in a Draught of a Petition : Which read. - That the Lord President told them, that the Lords tied us not to any Frame or Form of Words, but left the Alteration thereof to the Wisdom of this House. - Twice read.

This committed to the Committee, appointed for the Conference : - To meet at Two of the Clock this Afternoon, in the Court of Wards: And Sir Edw. Coke added to it.

The Bill for Explanation of a Statute 3 Jac. about Leases of Recusants Lands, to be brought by the Clerk into the House.
