March 1378

March 21.
Westminster.
To John Hethe escheator in Suffolk. Order, at suit of John de Worth knight and Blanche his wife, late the wife of Thomas de Ponynges, in presence of Adam Wykemer clerk and Thomas Ikham, to whom the king has committed the wardship thereof, to assign them dower of the manor of Wrantham called the Northalle; as they averred that long after his marriage with the said Blanche Thomas de Ponynges was seised of that manor, and after granted it for life to William de Elyngton knight now deceased, and that after his death the same is come to the king's hands by reason of the nonage of the heir of the said Thomas; and the king ordered the escheator to make inquisition, whereby it is found that the said Thomas long after his said marriage was thereof seised in his demesne as of fee, that he demised the same to the said William for life with reversion to himself and his heirs, that the said William had no other estate therein, that it is in the king's hand for the cause aforesaid, that it is held of others than the king, and is worth 14l. 4s. 6d. a year.
