To the sheriff of Middlesex. Writ of supersedeas, by mainprise of Thomas Driffeld of the county of Suthampton, Hugh Arderne of Yorkshire, John Stutton of Essex and William atte Hethe of Middlesex, in favour of John Blount knight at suit of John Colman 'coteler' averring threats.
May 1.
Westminster.
To the mayor and bailiffs of Newcastle upon Tyne and the keepers of the passage of that port. Order with assent of the council and of other the lords and great men of the realm forthwith to cause proclamation to be made forbidding any man without special licence under the great seal addressed to the said keepers to pass to foreign parts, under pain of forfeiture and of being put out of the king's protection, except known merchants who will go thither to ply their traffic, and forbidding any man without such licence to take or cause any to be taken thither; and order to arrest and imprison any who shall be found passing without licence until the king shall take order for their delivery, and that the said keepers shall take an oath of merchants before their passage that they shall not go to any foreign parts save for lawful traffic, nor take any with them without licence, certifying in chancery the names of those who pass with licence and the day of their passage. To the prior and convent of St. Frideswide Oxford. Request to admit William Caym the king's serjeant to that house, and minister to him such maintenance as Michael de Gascoigne had for life at the late king's command; as he has granted his estate therein to the said William, and the king has granted the same to the said William for life. By p.s. [400.]
May 26.

To the bailiffs of Norwich. Order to cause proclamation to be made forbidding any maker of cloths to suffer any cloth to pass from his hands until sealed with the seal appointed for the purpose, except such as he shall have made for raiment of himself and his household; as in a statute it is contained that all cloths exposed for sale before being so sealed are forfeit to the king; and in an indenture between the king and William Gerard of Norwich, to whom the king has for a set farm committed the subsidy in Norffolk and Suffolk upon cloths for sale granted to the late king by the lords and commons of England, it is contained that any maker of cloth shall be forbidden to suffer any cloth to pass out of his keeping as aforesaid.
