Lydoum. The manor (extent given), whereof the king enfeoffed him by charter, to be held of the king in chief by service of 1 knight's fee, and he did suit at the hundred (court) of Posselowe. The jury know not what tenements he held of other lords.
Thomas his son, aged 30 at Christmas in the above year, is his next heir.

Eton Costintin. The manor with its members Oldebury and Sontford (extent given), held of Sir Richard, earl of Aroundel, for 1 knight's fee, doing service to the castle of Oswestry (Albi monasterii) for fifteen days with a barded horse at his own (costs), and doing suit at the court of Optone, the county (court) of Salop, and the hundred of Bradefor'.

Writ to Bevis (Bogo) de Cnovile, constable of the castle of Monte Gomery, 28 July, 18 Edw. I.
[Salop.] Inq. Tuesday before St. Laurence, 18 Edw. I.
Lydom. The manor was held by Robert de Boulers, sometime lord of Montegomeri all his time, as his other manors within the land of Montegomeri, pertaining to the liberty of Montegomeri; who died without heir of his body, as did also Baldwin his brother who succeeded him; after whose death the said manor with other members of Montegomeri came to the king's hand, and Wentlyana Thek, wife of the said Baldwin, was dowered of the manor of Lidom by the king; after her death the king conferred it upon a knight named William de Hautentot for his service, who wearied with war surrendered it to the king; and so it has always remained pertaining to the castle of Montegomeri until the king that now is, during his father's lifetime, conferred it upon Adam de Montegomeri for his service, but for what service he held it the jury know not.
Thomas his firstborn son, aged 30 and more, is his next heir.
Stocton. 3s. rent, held of Philip de Smethecotes; and 3s. rent similarly held were confiscated into the king's hand before the death of the said Adam, because he wished to have given them to Adam his younger son, and so they have remained.
Tuneburth. 5s. 9d. rent held of the said Philip, service unknown, because he was secretly enfeoffed thereof by the said Philip, who held of the king in chief.
Baggebyri within the liberty of Montegomeri. Certain land (unspecified) held of the prior of Cherebyri, rendering 18d. yearly at the castle of Montegomeri.

748. Adam de Monte Gomeri.
Writ to the escheator on this side Trent to make extent of the lands &c. of the said Adam and assign dower to Isabel late his wife, 7 Aug. 18 Edw. I.
Writ, on the complaint of Adam, son of the said Adam, and Margaret and Maud his sisters, that the escheator had taken into the king's hand certain lands which their said father granted them by charter sometime before his death, which lands are held of divers lords and not of the king in chief, viz.—to the said Adam 50a. land, a mill and 20s. rent in Burwarton, Scotton (sic Stocton), Toneburgh and Cherlecote, and 2 virgates in the manor of Lidon, to the said Margaret 40s. rent in Etton and Sulton, and to the said Maud ½ virgate in Esthampton, to them and their heirs and assigns for ever, requiring the escheator to release the same if it is found so by inquisition, 8 Aug. 18 Edw. I.
Similar writ, on the complaint of the said Adam and Margaret, that the escheator had ejected them from lands &c. in Stokton, Tunyburh' and Buruarton, of which their father had enfeoffed them long before his death, 6 Sept. 18 Edw. I.

She held the aforesaid lands &c. by service of 1½ knight's fee; Shokelach by service of finding a judicator at the county (court) of Chester and hundred of Goldebourne; Dokynton by service of finding a suitor at the hundred of Goldebourne; and Yeiton by the aforesaid service, and by service of finding a footman to Peter de Arderne at the castle (castellum) of Aldeford, in time of war at the said Peter's costs.
Isabel, the wife of Richard de Sutton, age 30, is her next heir.

Bondeby. A capital messuage, 11 bovates land in demesne, and free tenants holding 22 bovates, sometime held of the king in chief, service unknown; of which ten years ago he enfeoffed Richard Costantin, his brother, in exchange for certain lands &c. in Ireland, rendering to the said John and his heirs a pair of gilt spurs at Easter. He held no lands in the county on the day he died.
Geoffrey his son, aged 30 and more, is his heir.

Earls Barton. The manor, held of Robert de Pynkeny, knight, in chief by service of ½ knight's fee, was quit-claimed by the said Alice to the said Robert, excepting the hall, chambers, kitchen and offices, which she reserved to herself for life, and granted to the said Robert for ever after her death.
Horpol. The manor, held in dower after the death of the said Ralph, of the king in chief, service unspecified.
Simon, son of the said Ralph, is her next heir in line of blood, and of full age.
Northampton. Inq. Tuesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 18 Edw. I.
Horpol. The manor (extent given) with the advowson of the church, held in dower of the king in chief by service of rendering scutage when it runs, and doing two attendances at the court of the honour of Peverel at Duston.

Devon. Inq. taken at Langetrewe on Monday before St. Dunstan, 18 Edw. I.
Hole and Aurey. A messuage, 40a. arable, 1½a. meadow, rents &c. (extent given with names of tenants), held of the king in chief by serjeanty, rendering three barbed arrows when he shall hunt in the forest of Exemore, whereof Joan late the wife of William Engefyn is dowered of 2s. 10d.; and 2 ferlings land held of Anthony de Aleslond, rendering 5s. yearly.
He died on Thursday after St. Peter in Cathedra in the above year. William his son, aged 3 on the day of St. Laurence last, is his next heir.

Both held of the king in chief by service of 1/12 knight's fee, and suit is owed at the hundred (court) of Cherebyri every three weeks, and wardship, relief, marriage and heriot, when they happen.

Wyvercote. A moiety of the manor held in demesne of Urian de Sancto Petro, and Roderic (Rotherico) son of Griffin and Beatrice his wife, and the other moiety held in demesne of Richard de Sutton and Isabel his wife, by service of 2s. yearly.

Chester. Inq. Wednesday the feast of the Conversion of St. Paul, 18 Edw. I.
Maklesfeld forest. A forestership of a certain foot forester, held of the queen, worth 2s. yearly to be paid to the said Thomas by the hands of the same forester.
Goseword. The manor held of Peter de Arderne by finding a footman in the castle of Alderford with a hauberk and lance whenever the king makes his summons (citacionem) at Chester by reason of the army. Alice late the wife of Richard de Orreby his father is dowered of a third part.
Northclif. The manor and a third part of the fee of Pownehale, held of Edmund Fyton, doing service of 5s. 9d. The 'Warlond' of the manor is bound to feed the queen's servants of Maklesfeld one day monthly, and the manor shall find two men for 'le haywerk,' when summons shall have been made for it in the hundred (court) of Maklesfeld. The said Alice is dowered of a third part.
Lythe beyond the bridge of De. 2 carucates land held of Peter de Dutton, doing service of 1lb. pepper at the exchequer of Chester by the hands of the said Peter. The said Alice is dowered of a third part.
Snelleston. 10s. rent held in exchange made with James de Aldithele for his land of Tatton.

Hereford. Inq. Saturday the morrow of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 18 Edw. I.
Kingespeun. A messuage, 1 carucate land, 3a. meadow, 6a. pasture, 50a. wood, and 8l. 22½d. rents, held of Theobald de Verdon by service of ½ knight's fee.
Huton. A messuage, ½ carucate arable, 2a. meadow, 1a. pasture, and 22s. 4d. rent of assize, held of the said Theobald de Werdon by service of ½ knight's fee.
Cobbewall. A messuage, 1 carucate arable, 1a. pasture, and 35s. 7d. rent of assize, held of John de Krictot by service of ¼ knight's fee.
Thomas, his son and heir, was of full age at the feast of St. Michael, 17 Edw. I.

764. Richard de Brademere.
Writ, on the complaint of William his son and heir, that the escheator had without the king's mandate taken the said Richard's lands &c. into the king's hand, and ejected Alice de Brademere, guardian of the said heir, 20 June, 18 Edw. I.
Surrey. Inq. made by jurors of the hundreds of Kyngeston, Emelebrugg, Coppedethorn and Effyngheham, on Friday the feast of St. Thomas the Martyr, 18 Edw. I.
Longeditton. A certain tenement was held by William de Brademere, father of the said Richard, of Robert le Tut, who married Alex(andra) daughter of Robert Arsic, rendering to him 25s., which tenement the said Robert held of the king in chief, rendering 10s. every 24 weeks at the castle of Dover; and the said Robert received the 25s. yearly, and did not acquit the said William of the said 10s., until the said William was in arrear 20 marks, and the constable of Dover distrained him for the same; the said William prayed the said Robert to acquit him as he was bound to do, but he refused, and the said William paid the said 20 marks; and since then the said William and Richard his son have rendered 10s. every twenty-four weeks up to this time at the Castle of Dover.
The said Richard died in Easter week, 16 Edw. I. William his son, aged 16, is his next heir.
Writ of plenius certiorari, on the complaint of Thomas de Gardinis, grandson of the abovesaid Alexandra, that the escheator believing that the above-said Richard held his lands &c. of the king because he paid the said 10s. for the guard (custodiam) of the king's castle of Dover, had taken the lands &c. into the king's hands; offering to pay the said rent as the abovesaid Robert and Alexandra, and her ancestors used to do; and asserting that the wardship of these lands &c. ought to pertain to him as next heir of the said Alexandra, 28 July, 18 Edw. I.
Surrey. Inq. Friday after the Assumption, 18 Edw. I.
Longeditton. Certain lands were held by Robert le Tute [alias de Tute] and Alexandra his wife of the king in chief of the inheritance of the said Alexandra, which William de Brademere held of them, rendering 25s. yearly whereof they rendered 10s. every 24 weeks for the guard of the castle of Dover; but after the death of the said Alexandra, the said Robert who held the said lands &c. by the courtesy of England, ceased the said payment, and the said William and Richard his son, for default of his acquittance, have paid the same by distraint of the bailiffs of the said castle.
The said Thomas de Gardinis is next heir of the same Alexandra.

Writ of plenius certiorari, whereas Thomas de Gardinis, who asserted that the said Richard held his land in Langeditton of himself and his ancestors whereby that wardship ought to pertain to him, has quitclaimed his right if any to the king, and Bartholomew de Morley and Alice his wife, late the wife of the said Richard and mother of the heir, claim the said wardship, asserting that the said Richard held nothing of the king or of the said Thomas in Longeditton in chief, whereby the said wardship could pertain to either of them, but held his land there of Nicholas de Inglisham in socage, and other lands of other lords also in socage, whereby the said wardship pertains to the said Bartholomew and Alice because the said Alice is next friend of the heir, the escheator is to enquire how the said land was held and who is the next heir, and of what age &c. 16 May, 19 Edw. I.

Hoton. The manor with 3 carucates land in Pinchimthorp (extent given with names of tenants) held of Lucy, daughter and heir of Robert de Twing alias de Tweng, who is in the king's wardship, by knight's service.
Pinchunthorp. A waste toft; and 4 bovates land held by John son of Philip de Thorp of the said Hugh, by homage and service, and by him of Ran[ulph] de Nevill by knight's service.

A messuage with garden, 2 virgates land, 5a. meadow, pasture, and tenants rendering 9s. 3d., held by service of serjeanty, keeping a moiety of the forest of Gravelinge on the north side, and by service of rendering to the king 2s. yearly at the castle of Salisbury (Sarrum), and to the prior of Bradele 21s. yearly; and 1 virgate land, and 1 rood meadow held of Edmund Spigornel and Maurice de Bonham, by service of 2s. the first year and 18d. the second.

Hundred of La Berthon outside Bristol. 14s. rent held by service of doing suit at the king's hundred of Berton every three weeks.
Tydrington. The manor held of the earl of Gloucester by service of ½ knight's fee, doing suit at the court of Thornebury every three weeks.
Ichynton, held of the earl of Hereford by service of ½ knight's fee, owing three suits also yearly at the bishop of Worcester's hundred of Hembury in the salt marsh.

The manor (extent given) including a wood within the bounds of the forest, and 9l. rent of villeins from which the heirs of Sir Hugh Burnell receive yearly 7 marks, and they have the advowson of the church of Chetyton, held of the king in chief, service unspecified. And the villeins hold certain of the lord's demesne lands rendering 11s. 10½d. yearly. He held nothing else in Salop or Stafford.

Chadesley. The manor (full extent given of two parts, Alda mother of the said Roger being dowered of a third part), including two woods within the bounds of the forest, a rent of 4 woodcocks (?) (wytecoci) price ½d. each, cart service due twice yearly at the bridge of Twkysburi, and the advowson of the church. The manors of Chaddisleye and Bikemers were held by the said Roger of the earl of Gloucester for 1 knight's fee, doing one attendance at the court of Teukesbyri yearly for all service.
Heir as above, aged 8 in the quinzaine of St. Michael, in the year abovesaid.

Berton by Brestoll alias Brustoll. 15s. 2d. rent held of the king in chief by socage, doing suit every three weeks at the king's hundred of Berton for all services. He held nothing of the earl of Hereford and Essex there, but held the manor of Ichynton of the said earl by service of ½ knight's fee.
