To the escheator in Essex. Order to give Thomas Chaucer and Maud his wife seisin of the moiety of the manor of Hatfelde Peverell which pertains to them by inheritance in right of the said Maud after the death of Ismania who was wife of John Burgherssh knight, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the other moiety thereof, delivering to them any issues taken of that moiety; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that at her death Ismania held no lands in Essex in her demesne as of fee, but held the said manor jointly with her husband by feoffment of William Sutton and others to them and the said John's heirs, that they had issue two daughters, Margaret and Maud, both yet living, that the said John died and Ismania overlived him, that after his death the reversion descended to Margaret and Maud as his daughters and heirs, that a fine of one moiety of the manor of Hattefelde Peverell levied at Westminster on the morrow of St. Martin 5 Henry V between Thomas Chaucer and the said Maud his wife plaintiffs and John Arundell and the said Margaret his wife deforciants, whereby the deforciants granted the reversion of that moiety, being of the said Margaret's heritage, to the plaintiffs and the heirs of their bodies, to hold of the deforciants and of the heirs of the said Margaret, that the said Ismania attorned tenant to them, that one moiety of the manor by virtue of the said fine pertains to the said Thomas and Maud and to their heirs aforesaid, and the other by inheritance to them in right of the said Maud, and to her heirs, and that the manor is not held of the king; and the king has taken the homage and fealty of the said Thomas, due by reason of issue between him and the said Maud begotten, for her purparty of the lands held in chief by the said Ismania in dower for her life of the heritage of her said daughters.
To the escheator in Oxfordshire. Order to give John Arundell and Margaret his wife seisin of one moiety of the messuage (sic), land and meadow hereinafter mentioned which pertains to them by inheritance in right of the said Margaret, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the other moiety thereof, delivering to them any issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before John Wachet late escheator, that the said Ismania at her death held no lands in Oxfordshire in her demesne as of fee, but held in dower two messuages, 2½ virgates 2 acres of land and 1½ acre of meadow in Tithorp of the heritage of Maud wife of Thomas Chaucer and Margaret wife of John Arundell, daughters and heirs of John Burgherssh knight her husband, that after his death the reversion of the same descended to them, that long before the death of Ismania a fine levied between John Arundell and Margaret Plaintiffs and Thomas Chaucer and Maud deforciants of a moiety of the said messuages, land and meadow, by name of a moiety of the manor of Tythorp, whereby the deforciants granted the reversion of that moiety to the plaintiffs and to the heirs of their bodies, that the said Ismania attorned tenant to them, that so one moiety of the same by virtue of that fine pertains to them and their heirs aforesaid, and the other by inheritance to them and to the heirs of Margaret in her right, and that the premises are not held of the king; and for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has respited until a day yet to come the homage and fealty of John Arundell, due by reason of issue between him and Margaret begotten, for her purparty of the lands held for life by the said Ismania in chief in dower of her daughters' heritage.
To the escheator in Bukinghamshire. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning three tofts, a dovecote, 2½ virgates of land, 8 acres of meadow and 6d. of rent in Kyngesey, 4s. of rent in Toursey, and a third part of all the wood and underwood in Kyngesey and Toursey, reciting a fine of one moiety thereof, by name of a moiety of the manor of Kyngesey, levied between the same parties, whereby the said Thomas and Maud granted the reversion thereof to John Arundell and Margaret his wife and to the heirs of their bodies etc. (as in the last).
