To the escheator in Northumberland. Order to give Robert Dumframvylle son of Joan livery of the castle of Herbotell and manor of Oterburne and the issues thereof taken, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the lands, moors, marches, woods, etc. hereinafter mentioned, delivering to the said Robert any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Gilbert Umfreville knight at his death held the said castle and manor to him and the heirs male of his body, for that by fine levied at Westminster in 1 Richard II, with licence of that king Gilbert de Umfraville earl of Angos acknowledged the right of John Haburgh and John de Pykeworth clerks, and they granted the same to the earl and to the heirs of his body, with remainder to Robert de Umframville knight his brother and to the heirs male of his body, remainder to Thomas de Umframville brother of Robert and to the heirs male of his body, remainder to Thomas de Umframville son of Joan daughter of Adam de Rodom and the heirs male of his body, remainder to Robert de Umframville son of the said Joan and the heirs male of his body, remainder to the right heirs of the said earl, that the earl and Robert de Umframville knight died without issue, that after their death Thomas de Umframville brother of Robert was thereof seised to him and the heirs male of his body, and had issue an heir male of his body named Thomas, that he had issue an heir male of his body named Gilbert Umfreville knight, that after the decease of the said Thomas and Thomas he was seised of the premises as aforesaid, and died so seised without issue male, that Thomas brother of Robert is dead without issue male, and Thomas his son father of Gilbert likewise, and that Thomas de Umframville son of Joan is dead without issue male, and that so the said castle and manor ought to remain wholly to Robert son of Joan and to the heirs male of his body, that the said earl, by name of Gilbert Dumframville earl of Angos and lord of Kyme, gave to Henry Asty, John de Haburgh clerk, Thomas de Horslee the elder and Richard de Ovyngham clerk, their heirs and assigns, ten husband lands and four cottages in Alwenton with the bodies of his villeins and all that goes with them, 40 acres of land and four cottages in Bidlesden, 100 acres of land in Boroudoun, 20 acres of land and two cottages in Scherberton, 80 acres of land in Thirnhom, 30 acres of land and four cottages in Angreham, six husband lands and six cottages in Nederton, 24 acres of land in Clenhille, 60 acres of land and five cottages in Rouely, and 5l. of yearly rent to be taken of his freeholders in those towns, by name of all his lands etc., moors, marshes, woods, homages, fealties, rents, services of all freeholders and tenants in bondage in the said towns, that the grantees were thereof seised, and after gave the same to Thomas de Umframville brother of Robert, by name of Thomas Dumframville the elder, and to the heirs male of his body, with remainder to the said Thomas son of Joan and to the heirs male of his body, remainder to Robert son of Joan and to the heirs male of his body, remainder to the earl's right heirs, that Thomas the elder was thereof seised, and had issue Thomas the son, that he had issue Gilbert Umfreville knight, who after the decease of the said Thomas and Thomas was seised of the premises to him and the heirs male of his body, and died so seised without issue male, that the said Thomas Dumframville, Thomas his son and Thomas son of Joan are dead without issue male, that so all the premises ought to remain to Robert son of Joan and to the heirs male of his body, and that the said castle and manor are held in chief by knight service, the other lands etc. of others than the king; and for 40s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited the homage and fealty of Robert son of Joan until Easter day next.
