To the escheator in Cumberland. Order to give the next friend of Joan daughter of John Dalston to whom the heritage may not descend livery of the moiety of a messuage, half a carucate of land and 1½ acre of meadow in Kings Salkelde, and the issues thereof taken, to keep to the said Joan's use until her lawful age, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with sixteen bovates of land in Dalston, delivering up any issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before Hugh Salkelde late escheator, that at his death John Dalston held the said moiety, land and meadow for his life by the courtesy of England after the death of Isabel his wife in her right, and the said bovates in his demesne as of fee, and that Joan and Mary were daughters and next heirs of John and of Isabel, Joan being of the age of eleven and Mary of six years on 9 March last; and by another inquisition, taken before the said escheator, it is found that a moiety of the said moiety, land and meadow, held by the said John by the courtesy as aforesaid of the heritage of the said Mary (now deceased) and Joan, and a moiety of the said bovates came to the king's hands by his death and by reason of the said Mary's nonage and are yet in his hand, that the said moiety, land and meadow are held of the king in socage by the service of rendering at the exchequer of Karliol 3s. 4d. a year at Michaelmas for all service, and the said bovates of another than the king, that the said Mary died 31 August last, and that Joan her sister is her next heir.
