Westminster.
To all admirals, customers, searchers and keepers of the passage of seaports and other places by the sea. Order, upon petition of Thomas del Dam of York, to suffer him to pass with a crayer of his called 'la Cristofore' of York of forty tuns burden, and with the cloth and other merchandise wherewith it was laded, any arrest heretofore made notwithstanding; as he has shewn the king that on 26 January last at Kyngeston upon Hull his crayer was laded and freighted with that merchandise duly customed to be taken to Northbers, and on the feast of St. Scolastica was on the point of being lost in a storm upon the coast of Holdernesse, insomuch that it was split in several places, the mast, anchor, cable and other gear were broken and cast away, and a number of the men therein were put in great peril, and that after, when at his great cost the same was repaired, a serjeant of the king called Thomas Busshe arrested the same to the king's use, and so he is hindered from the passage of ship and merchandise. Order, under pain of forfeiture, for particular causes now moving the king, to suffer no persons of whatsoever estate, degree or condition until further order to pass over sea without special command of the king under the great seal or letters of the privy seal or signet. Order to take of Joan who was wife of John Pomeray knight an oath that she shall not marry without licence of the king, and in presence of John Cole esquire, son of Margaret sister of John Pomeray and one of his cousins and heirs, and of Thomas Pomeray knight, who has taken to wife Joan daughter of Joan his other sister and his other cousin and heir, to assign her dower, sending the assignment to be enrolled in chancery as the manner is.
April 8.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Devon. Order to take the fealty of Joan late the wife of John Pomeray knight, and to give her livery of the manor of Byrypomeray, and the issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before William Cheyne and John Martyn by virtue of the king's commission to them and to William Paulet and John Sparwe, that at his death her husband held that manor as jointly enfeoffed with her by gift of Richard Holrigge vicar of Brixham and others, made with licence of King Richard II to him, by name of John de la Pomeray son and heir of Henry de la Pomeray, and to the said Joan and to the heirs of their bodies, and that the same is held in chief by knight service; and for 40s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited her homage until Midsummer day next.
May 1.

To the bailiffs of Norhampton for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference of 10,000l. given to the king in a parliament lately holden at Westminster, to pay to William Tregolde 5 marks a year for life and the arrears since 9 January 3 Henry V, on which date the king granted him for life 5 marks a year of the fee farm of that town. Order, notwithstanding the preference of 10,000l. given to the king in the parliament holden at Westminster in 1 Henry V, to pay to Thomas Luttelton the king's esquire 12l. a year for life, and the arrears since 7 June 1 Henry V, on which date the king confirmed letters patent whereby the late king granted to the said Thomas for life 12l. a year of the issues, profits etc. of that county arising. Order, notwithstanding the preference etc., to pay to Robert Morton 10l. a year for life, and the arrears for Easter term last; as by letters patent of 12 June 1 Henry V the king granted him for life the farm of 10l. which Hugh de Nevylle, son and heir of John de Nevylle, used to pay for that town to the king's forefathers. To the sheriff of Hereforde. Order, upon petition of Rees ap Griffith Says and Richard ap Griffith ap Howell the king's tenants in Cardiganshire, to set them free; as their complaint shews that now of late Howell ap Griffith Baunour was indicted for treason there committed, that straightway fleeing to Herefordshire he was there taken and imprisoned at the fresh suit of those tenants upon their information given to the sheriff, that they offered themselves to be committed to prison for proof of his treason, that he died in prison, and that they are there detained to the peril of their lives; and the king's will is that they be not kept in prison. Westminster.
To Humphrey duke of Gloucester, constable of Dovorre castle and warden of the Cinque Ports, or to his lieutenant. Order to summon the barons of singular those ports and of the members thereof at their pain and peril to be at the port of Suthampton before 8 May next with ships and seamen in array, ready to sail with the king's navy and perform their service, as they are bound to do, certifying such summons in chancery under his seal; as year by year the barons owe the king certain services at sea, if need be, namely that they and the members shall find 57 ships at sea at his summons upon forty days' notice, and in every ship twenty men and a master armed and arrayed to do his service, and that those ships shall sail to the port where they be summoned, and there abide on service fifteen days at the cost of the said ports, and after with the men therein at the king's cost so long as he shall please, if he shall have need of such service, the master taking 6d. a day, the constable 6d., and every other man 3d., as the king is assured by the charters of liberties granted to the barons by the king's forefathers, by him confirmed, and enrolled upon the chancery rolls; and for particular causes him moving, the king has now a fixed purpose shortly to pass to sea in person with his power in order to make an expedition against his enemies, and his will is that the barons perform their service to reinforce his fleet. To the bailiffs of Coventre for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference of 10,000l. given to the king in a parliament lately holden at Westminster, to pay to John Botiller esquire 40l. a year for life, and the arrears since 18 January last; as by letters patent of 7 February last, for good and willing service, the king granted the said esquire for life from 18 January 40l. a year of the fee farm of that town. To the sheriffs of London for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference etc. granted to the king in the parliament holden at Westminster in 1 Henry, V, every year to pay 12d. a day to John Feriby his clerk during his life, and to pay him the arrears since Michaelmas last; as by letters patent of 5 January 2 Henry V the king granted the said clerk for life 12d. a day of the fee farm of that city. To the sheriff of Salop for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference etc. granted to the king in a parliament lately holden at Westminster, to pay to Michael Penpouns and Robert Bellewe 9l. 10s. a year for their lives and the life of the survivor, and the arrears for Easter term last; as by letters patent of 28 January 3 Henry V the king granted them 9l. 10s. a year for their lives etc., namely 8l. 10s. of the farm of the manor of Northley, being parcel of the farm of the county post terras datas, 3s. 4d. of the rent of John de Asteley for 40 acres of waste in Northley, 6s. 8d. of his rent for like waste there arrented, and 10s. of yearly rent of a messuage, one carucate of land and a mill in Hatforde by Westbury, even as Gregory Ballarde deceased heretofore had it is said. Order, notwithstanding the preference etc. (as in the last), to pay to William Tregolde 100s. a year for life, and the arrears since 12 June 1 Henry V, on which date the king confirmed letters patent whereby the late king granted to the said William for life 100s. a year of the issues and profits of those counties. Reading.
To the escheator in Kent. Order, in presence of John Spicer son of John Spicer deceased and Robert Spycer brother of John the son, or of their attorneys, to make a partition into two equal parts of 82 acres of arable land and pasture and 1½ acre of wood annexed to a moiety of the manor of Strete and there lying, to give John the son seisin of his purparty, and to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the purparty of the said Robert, delivering up any issues of his purparty taken, and sending the partition under seal to be enrolled in chancery as the manner is; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that Joan who was wife of John the father died seised of the premises, which are held of the archbishop of Canterbury and others by the service and tenure of 'gavylkende,' and that John the son, of full age, and the said Robert, of the age of eighteen and upwards, are her sons and next heirs in respect of the same; and the king has taken the homage and fealty of John the son due for the said moiety, which she held of the king in chief.
May 10.

Order to the sheriff of Lincoln for election of a coroner instead of Robert Haunsarde, who dwells in the uttermost parts of the county, wherefore he may not conveniently exercise that office.
May 20.
Westminster.
To Thomas duke of Exeter admiral of England, or to his deputy in the port of Great Jernemuth. Order to set free a ship called a 'dogger' John Spitelyng owner, lately arrested in that port by command of the king to serve in his expedition to France, and yet under arrest, the arrest thereof notwithstanding; as the ship is not repaired for such service, as the king has particular information. May 24.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Bedfordshire. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manor of Eyworth, a messuage and a toft with other lands etc. in Eyworthe called Pyrleys, delivering to William Portere knight, lately esquire, Thomas Charleton, John Selman the elder, Roger Hunte, Thomas Fekynham and John Churche any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Adam Fraunceys knight was seised thereof in fee tail by feoffment of William de Halden and John Usshere late citizens of London to him and the heirs of his body, that long before his death he gave the same to John Cherche, William Burgh and Robert Burnham and to their heirs, that they gave the same to John Pyke, John Selman the younger, Thomas Gyldspyn, John Bole and John Wryght and to their heirs, that they gave the same to William Portere, Thomas Charleton, Robert Neuport, John Selman the elder, Roger Hunte, Thomas Fekynham (Fekenham) and John Churche and to their heirs, that Robert Neuport died, and the other feoffees have peaceably continued their estate in the premises all the life of the said Adam and until now, and that all are held of others than the king.

Order to take the fealty of Thomas son of Anne sister and one of the heirs of Thomas son and heir of Thomas Cherlton of Appeley, and cousin and heir of Ellen the other sister, and to give him seisin of the lands of Thomas Cherlton; as Thomas son of Thomas Cherlton died within age in ward of the late king, and the said Ellen likewise; and Thomas son of Anne proved his age before Richard Knyghtley late escheator in Staffordshire, and for 20s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited his homage until the feast of St. Martin next.

To the escheator in Yorkshire. Order to take of Alice who was wife of William Paulyn of Hunmanby an oath etc., and in presence of Thomas Paulyn son and heir of the said William, or of his attorneys, to assign her dower.
May 22.
Westminster.
To the bailiff of Great Jernemuth. Order to take of Poppo Jonson of Dordrecht, master of a ship called the 'Cristofor' of Dordrecht of fifty tuns burden which is in that port arrested, security that he shall with all speed bring his ship to the port of Suthampton to serve the king in the expedition he is shortly to undertake, and to deliver the same to him, suffering him to take it whither he will, any former command of the king to the contrary notwithstanding.
May 24.
Westminster.
To Henry Barton mayor of the city of London and escheator therein. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with five messuages, eight shops with cellars, solars etc. in the parishes of St. Peter in 'Westchepe' and St. Mary Magdalene in 'Milkstrete' London, two selds, twenty messuages, four shops with cellars, solars etc., and 7l. 5s. 10d. of rent in the parishes of St. Pancras, Allhallows upon the Wall, St. Michael Bassyngeshawe, St. Swithun, St. Mildred in 'Bredestrete,' St. Mary Colchirche, St. Michael at Queenhithe, St. Alphege within 'Crepulgate,' St. Mary 'Aldermanbury,' St. Andrew Hubert, Allhallows in 'Bredestrete,' St. Mary Magdalene in 'Milkstrete,' St. Peter in 'Westchepe,' St. Martin Pomers, St. Ethelburga within 'Bisshopesgate,' St. Botolph without 'Algate,' Allhallows Berkynges, Allhallows at the Hay and St. Michael 'Paternosterchirche,' delivering to William Porter knight, Agnes his wife, Thomas Charleton and Elizabeth his wife any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Adam Fraunceys knight held all the premises in the city and suburbs of London by the courtesy of England after the death of Margaret his wife, by reason of issue between them begotten, of the heritage of the said Agnes and Elizabeth her daughters and heirs, with reversion to them and their heirs, that they are of full age, and that the same are held in chief in free burgage, as is all the city of London.
To the escheator in Surrey. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning a garden in the borough of Southwerke between a tenement late of Thomas Croydone on the west, the common stank on the east, a tenement sometime of John Kirtone on the north, and the highway from 'Seint Georges' to Bermondesey on the south, and 25 acres 3½ roods 17½ perches 3½ inches of land in that town, all held in chief in free burgage, as is the whole borough of Suthwerk; as the king has learned etc. that at his death Adam Fraunceys knight held the same by the courtesy (as above), and that Agnes wife of William Porter knight and Elizabeth wife of Thomas Charleton are daughters and next heirs of the said Margaret, and of full age.

Salisbury.

Order, upon warning received by Robert Waterton the king's esquire, whom he has deputed to bring the duke of Orleans to Pountfreit castle, with such power of those counties as he shall be directed straightway to conduct the duke through his whole bailiwick, going and returning; as for particular causes now moving the king he has sent the said duke his prisoner from Wyndesore castle to Pountfreit, there to abide a set time. To Robert Hulle, appointed with John Hals, William Frye and Henry Foleforde a justice to take an assize of novel disseisin concerning tenements in Wercombe, Alvyngton and Wolston arraigned by Joan who was wife of Andrew Falepitte and by Philip Falepitte against Richard Uppeton of Uppeton by Kyngesbrygge and others. Order not to proceed to take that assize; as for particular causes the king has discharged him.

To the sheriff of Stafford for the time being. Order, notwithstanding the preference of 10,000l. given to the king in a parliament lately holden at Westminster, to pay to John de Kyngesley the king's serjeant 20l. a year for life, and the arrears since 22 March last, on which date for good service the king granted the said John for life 20l. a year of the issues, profits and revenues of that county.
