The abbot and convent of St. Werburg Cestre to Thomas bishop of Durham, his heirs, executors and assigns. Receipt for 800 marks in full of the farm of the manor of Weston upon Trent with the members and appurtenances, and of all other lands, rents and services in Weston upon Trent, Aston, Shardelowe, Wylne, Morley, Smalley and Kyddesley or elsewhere in Derbyshire which, by letters indented of 14 July 6 Henry V under seal of the abbot and their common seal, they did demise to the bishop, his heirs and assigns, for twelve years, from Michaelmas next, rendering yearly 44l. 8s. 10½d., reciting that the lessors are burdened with debt, and for their relief have requested him to pay the whole sum beforehand, which of his compassion he has done, and that they have applied the money to the needs of their monastery; acquittance of further payment for the same, and covenant with warranty that the lessees shall quietly possess the said manor and lands for the term aforesaid the said indenture notwithstanding. Witnesses: Roger de Horton justice of the King's Bench, James del Holt representative at Cestre of the justice of Cestre, William Troutebek chamberlain of Cestre, John de Overton mayor of Cestre, William Gernet. Dated the chapter house Cestre, 12 September 6 Henry V.
Memorandum of acknowledgment at Cestre on Tuesday before the Exaltation of Holy Cross before James del Holt representative of Gilbert lord Talbot the king's justice of Cestre, by virtue of a dedimus postestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.
