Sept. 17.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Norhamptonshire. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with a third part of the manor of Chacombe, delivering to Henry bishop of Winchester, Thomas bishop of Durham, Simon Felbrygge knight, John Preston, John de Aske, Richard Steresacre and Robert Suthwelle any issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that Elizabeth who was wife of Thomas late duke of Norffolk at her death held no lands in Northamptonshire of the king or of any others in her demesne as of fee nor in service, but by endowment of her said husband held that third part in dower of the heritage of John duke of Norffolk, son and heir of the late duke, with reversion to the said bishops and the others by grant of the said duke, by name of John earl marshal and earl of Notyngham marshal of England lord Moubray, Segrave and Gower, and that the same is not held of the king.
To the escheator in Yorkshire. Order to give the (said) bishops and the others (above named) livery of a third part of the manors of Threke, Hovyngham and Kyrkeby Malsarde, and the issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that the said Elizabeth held likewise that third part with reversion to them by grant etc. (as above) made with licence of the late king, and that the same and the other two thirds are held in chief by knight service; and for 40s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited until the feast of Allhallows next the homages and fealties of the said bishops and the others due for the premises and for other lands in other counties.
To the escheator in Kent. Like order concerning a third part of the manor of Ryersshe, held of the king as of Rouchestre castle by the service of paying 10s. a year for castle ward on St. Andrew's day; as for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has respited until a day yet to come the homages and fealties etc. (as above).
To the escheator in Leycestershire. Like order concerning a third part of the manor of Melton Moubray, but order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with a third part of four and twenty messuages and sixteen virgates of land in Wheston, delivering to the said bishops and the others any issues thereof taken; as it is found etc. that the third part of that manor is held in chief, and the third part of the said messuages and land of others than the king.
To the escheator in Lincolnshire. Like order concerning a third part of the manor of Eppeworth, which is held in chief by the service of the third part of one knight's fee.
To the escheator in Warwickshire. Like order as in the first writ, mutatis mutandis, concerning a third part of the manors of Caloudoun and Weston by Chyryton, which are not held of the king.
Sept. 17.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Lincolnshire. Order to take the fealty of John Sotille, who (has taken to wife) Joan sister and heir of Henry Poucher son and heir of John Poucher knight, the said Henry having died within age in ward of the late king, and to give him and Joan his wife seisin of the lands of John Poucher; as he has proved her age before Thomas Stockdale escheator in Essex.
To the escheator in Yorkshire. Order to give the said John Sotille and Joan seisin etc.; as he has proved etc. (as above), and the king has commanded the escheator in Lincolnshire to take his fealty.
