Westminster.
To the sheriff of Suthampton for the time being. Order, if the extent of the castle, town, forest and warren of Porchestre suffice not for payment of 12d. a day for the fees of Roger Fienles knight and John Sherwyn esquire, 3d. a day for the wages of a janitor, 1½d. a day for a groom under him, and 6d. a day for wages of a watchman (sic), to pay them, the janitor, groom, artillier and watchman what is in arrear thereof over and above that extent from 10 June last, and every year during their lives and the life of the longest liver; as by letters patent of that date the king granted them for their lives etc. the office of keeper of the said castle, town, forest and warren, to be occupied by them or one of them or by deputy, having a janitor, an artillier and a watchman dwelling within the castle for safe guard thereof, and taking 12d. a day themselves in name of their fees, 3d. for wages of the janitor, 1½d. of the groom, the janitor and groom being keepers of the warren under them, 6d. for wages of the artillier and 3d. a day of the watchman by their hands so far as the extent aforesaid will go, and the residue of the issues, profits, farms and revenues of the county.
