Bromfeild, &c. Tenants.

L. 2a. An Act for the Establishing of the Estates of the Tenants of Bromfeild and Yale, in the County of Denbighe, and of the Tenures, Rents, and Services, thereupon reserved: - Committed to Sir Ew. Thelluall, Sir Rich. Gravenor, Sir James Perrott, Mr. Coriton, Mr. Littleton, Knights and Burgesses of Wales and Cheshyre, Mr. Edwards, Sir Ar. Ingram : - This Afternoon, Two Clock, Exchequer Chamber.

Wine- merchants.

A Petition for the Wine-merchants, brought in from the Committee, and read. The Words, " in Parliament," added, by Direction of the House, by the Clerk; [and] then ordered to be ingrossed.

Sabaoth.

Sir Ro. Harley reporteth the Bill of the Sabaoth, without Amendments. - Upon Question, Engrossetur.

Coventry Election.

Mr. Hackwill reporteth from the Committee for Privileges, the Case of Coventry. - Two Indentures returned: By One, Mr. Isaac Walden, and ... by the other, Mr. Greene, and Mr. Purefey, Gentlemen of Worth, but no Inhabitants, nor Freemen. -

All Freemen Electors, and no other. Upon Warning, about 600 appeared. The Magistrates read the Statute 1o H. V. [a] -

That resolved by all the Committee, una voce, that Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey, well elected.

That the Committee thought fit, the Sheriff... should, at the Bar of this House, acknowlege his Error; and that both Sheriffs return Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey.

Sir Edw. Coke .- - For the Statute of 1 H. V. for Burgesses, Resiants, and so for Knights of the Shire; though in the Negative, yet, if they elect one not resiant, the Election good.

Upon Question, Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey well elected for the City of Coventry.

Sheriff called to Bar.

Upon Question, that Knight, One of the Sheriffs, to be called to the Bar, and there to acknowlege his Error, in not returning Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey, being elected by the major Part of the Electors.

Hereupon he called in, and kneeling, accordingly charged by Mr. Speaker. He pleadeth Ignorance ; and, that he was misled by the Statute 1o H. V.

Withdrawn; and called in again, and kneeling at Bar, Mr. Speaker telleth him, the House is pleased, upon his Acknowlegement of his Error, to remit him from further Punishment.

Upon Question, the Two Sheriffs to be called in, to join in making One Return of Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey.

But the Clerk of the Crown not being without the Door, with the Return, the Matter deferred.

Billetting Soldiers.

Divers Warrants, under Mr. Baber's Hand, Recorder of Welles, read; for Billetting of divers Officers of Bands of Soldiers.

He heard, and maketh Defence; and then ordered to withdraw.

Coventry Return.

The Clerk of the Crown and Sheriffs of Coventry, called in; and Knight endorsed his Name, upon the Back of the Writ, to the Return of Mr. Greene and Mr. Purefey. Ordered, The Clerk of the Crown shall take the other Indenture, whereby Walden and the other Citizen are returned, off the File.

A Member to explain.

The Debate, concerning Mr. Baber, renewed.

Upon Question, Mr. Baber to be called in, to explain himself, what he meant by these Words, " that he had some personal Directions for what he did."

He called in, and taking his Place, Mr. Speaker asked him that Question : Who answered, that Sir Edw. Rodney told him, some Soldiers were to come to their City; and that he, knowing the City better than he, should place the Soldiers according to his Discretion. Then he again, required to do it, withdrew.

Mr. Baber called in again, and asked, what Warrant in Writing was directed to him, concerning this Business : He answereth, none ; the Warrants being to the Constables.

Suspended.

Upon Question, Mr. Baber shall be suspended and sequestered from the House, till the further Pleasure of the House; and that the further Examination of this Business shall be referred to the former Committee, for Examination, the Abuses of Deputy Lieutenants; and, till a Report made from that Committee, in the full House, no Motion shall be made for his Admission into the House. This to be signified to him by the Serjeant.

Tonage and Poundage - Remonstrance to the King.

Mr. Bankes reporteth from the grand Committee, the Bill concerning Tonage and Poundage. - That they have all resolved, that there should be a Remonstrance made to his Majesty, of our Right; and to have a Book of Rates agreed upon in Parliament; and that.....

A Draught read, of a Remonstrance to his Majesty, tendered to the said Committee.

Resolved, To defer, till To-morrow, the Resolution of the Committee, and the Draught of the said Remonstrance.

Tonage and Poundage.

The Bill of Subsidy of Tonage and Poundage, re-committed to the same Committee.

Call of the House.

Ordered, The House shall be called upon Thursday next Week; and every Member of the House then to attend, upon Pain of 10l. to be disposed [of,] as the House shall appoint, besides such further [Forfeiture.] as the House shall inflict.

Leave of Absence.

Mr. Darrington, gone down by reason of the Sickness of his Father, to be spared.

Mr. Shervyle, for special Occasions, to be spared.

Sir Wm. Constable, elected for Scarboroughe in Yorkeshyre, and for Kellington in Cornewayle, electeth for Scarboroughe.
