To the escheator in Cumberland and Westmerland. Order to take of Mary who was wife of William Stapilton the elder an oath etc., and in presence of William Stapilton, son and heir of William the elder, or of his attorneys, to assign her dower.
Feb. 5.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Derbyshire. Order to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors of Shirlonde and Stretton, 100 acres of land, 60 acres of meadow and 4 acres of pasture called 'Folwote' and 'Hallerlonde,' delivering to Margaret who was wife of Richard Grey of Wilton knight any issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that at his death the said Richard held no lands in Derbyshire in chief, but long before his death was seised of the manors, lands etc. aforesaid, and by charter dated 8 June 20 Henry VI gave the same, by name of the manors of Shirlonde and Stretton and all lands etc. called 'Folwode' and 'Hallerlande,' to Richard Henbarowe, John Clubbewell and Richard Coppe chaplain, that they by charter, dated Shirlande 10 July 20 Henry VI, by name of the manors and lands etc. which they had by his feoffment, gave the same to the said Richard and Margaret and to the heirs of their bodies, by name of Richard de Grey lord of Wylton knight and Margaret his wife, and that they are held of others than the king.
To the escheator in Lincolnshire. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning the manor of Hemmyngby; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the escheator, that Richard Henbarowe, John Clubbewell and Richard Coppe chaplain were thereof seised, and by charter, dated Shirlande 10 July last, made a demise thereof, with manors and lands in other counties, to Richard de Grey lord of Wilton and Margaret his wife and to the heirs of their bodies, that Richard Grey died thereof jointly so seised, and that the manor is held of another than the king.
To the escheator in Bukinghamshire. Like order, mutatis mutandis, concerning the manors of Shenley, Aston Clynton and Morton; as it is found by inquisition, taken before John Derham late escheator, that long before his death Richard Grey of Wilton knight was seised of the manors of Shenley and Aston Clynton, and gave the same to Richard Henbarowe, John Clubbewell and Richard Coppe chaplain, their heirs and assigns, that they by charter, dated Shirlonde 10 July last, made a demise thereof, among other things, to Richard de Grey lord of Wylton and Margaret his wife and to the heirs of their bodies, that the said Margaret is thereof seised by right of survivorship, that Robert Darcy, John Aburhale, John Borham and William Parker of Eton were seised of the manor of Morton, and made a demise thereof, among other things, to Richard Henbarowe, John Clubbewell and Richard Coppe, their heirs and assigns, that they made a demise thereof, among other things, to the said Richard Grey and Margaret and to the heirs of their bodies, that the said Margaret is thereof seised by right of survivorship, and that those manors are held of others than the king.
To the escheator in Essex. Order to give (the said) Margaret livery of the manors of Purle, Seyres, Southous and the Hyde, but to remove the king's hand and meddle no further with the manors of Snorham, 'Weldebernes, Lachyngdenbernes' and Acresflete, delivering to her any issues thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before John Thornbury late escheator, that Robert Darcy, John Aburhale, William Ulgarthorp esquires, William Eton, John Bouer clerks, John Horewode, John Boreham and William Parker of Bleccheley were seised of the whole manor of Purle, and by charter indented gave the same to dame Margaret wife of Richard Grey of Wilton knight for her life, with remainder to Richard Grey and to the heirs of her body by him, that he was seised of the manors of Seyres, Southous and the Hyde as parcel of the manor of Purle, and of the manors of Snorham, 'Weldebernes, Lachyngdenbernes' and Acresflete, and by charter gave the same to Richard Henbarowe, John Clubwell and Richard Coppe chaplain, their heirs and assigns, that they made a demise thereof by charter to the said Richard de Grey lord of Wilton and Margaret his wife and to the heirs of their bodies, that Richard de Grey died thereof so seised, that licence of the king was not obtained, and that the manors of Purle, Seyres, Southous and the Hyde are held in chief by knight service, the other manors of others than the king; and for a fine paid in the hanaper the king has pardoned the trespasses herein committed, and for another fine therein paid has respited until a day yet to come the homage of the said Margaret due for the manors of Purle, Seyres, Southous and the Hyde and for the manor of Aston Grey co. Wiltesir, and has commanded the escheator in Wiltesir to take her fealty.
April 1.
Westminster.
To the escheator in Herefordshire and the march of Wales adjacent. Order to take the fealty of Thomas Welynton, and to give him and Agnes his wife seisin of her purparty of the lands hereinafter mentioned, keeping in his hand the purparty of Elizabeth daughter of John Walweyn until further order, as upon proof of the age of Ellen one of his daughters and heirs, whom Richard Monyngton took to wife, before John Wygemore late escheator, the king ordered that escheator to take the fealty of the said Richard, in presence of the said Richard and Ellen and of the next friends of the said Agnes and Elizabeth, or of their attorneys, to make a partition into three equal parts of all the lands held by their father in fee tail, and of all those of their heritage held in dower by Ellen who was his wife, and to give the said Richard and Ellen seisin of her purparty, keeping the purparties of the said Agnes and Elizabeth in his hand until further order, with proviso that each of the heirs and parceners should have a share of the lands held in chief and be a tenant of the king; and Thomas Welynton proved the age of the said Agnes before the said late escheator.

To the sheriff of Notyngham. Order to give John viscount Beaumont, John la Zouche, Thomas Rempston knights, Bartholomew Brokesby, John Cokfelde esquires, John Bowes, William Babyngton, Robert Clifton, both esquires, Richard Byngham, Ellen his wife and Richard his son seisin of a croft in Watnowe, 9s. 4d. of rent in Brokrestynge and 6s. 4d. of rent in Watnowe which were of John Brokstowe outlawed for felony; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that the premises were in his hand from 4 September 20 Henry VI to the date of that inquisition, that on the day of his outlawry John Brokstowe held them of the said viscount and the others as of their manor of Watnowe Chaworth by homage and fealty and by the service of 1d. a year at Whitsuntide and suit of their court there every three weeks, that John Cursoun late escheator had all the issues and profits thereof to the king's use from 4 September aforesaid until the feast of St. Martin following, and Ralph Pole late escheator from that feast to the feast of St. Martin last, and have answered or ought to answer for the same, and that long before the outlawry the said croft was utterly wasted, wherefore he may not answer for the waste thereof.
