May 1.
Westminster.
Order to the sheriff of Norhampton for election of a verderer in the forest of Whitelwode instead of Thomas Huntyngdoun of Rodeston, who is too aged and infirm to travail in exercise of that office.

To the abbot of Kyrkestall co. York for the time being. Order to pay to Joyce late the wife of John lord Tiptoft 16l. a year and the arrears since 23 January 21 Henry VI; as lately the king respited without a fine the homage and fealty of Richard duke of York, son and heir of Anne one of the daughters and heirs of Eleanor the first sister and heir of Edmund earl of Kent, brother and heir of Thomas earl of Kent, until the duke's return to England, and for a fine paid in the hanaper respited until a feast day now past the homages of the said Joyce, a second daughter and heir of the said Eleanor, and of Henry Grey knight son and heir of Joan her third daughter and heir, for the lands held in chief by Joan countess of Kent at her death, and for the manors, lands etc. of their heritage and the heritage of John earl of Somerset, son and heir of Margaret duchess of Clarence a second sister and heir of the said Edmund, Alice wife of Richard earl of Salisbury, being daughter and heir of Eleanor his third sister, and Ralph earl of Westmerland, son and heir of Elizabeth the fourth sister, they being cousins and heirs of Thomas earl of Kent, which were held by the said countess in dower and otherwise for her life, with assent of John Wigmore attorney of the said duke, Thurstain Banastre of the said Joyce and Thomas Englysshe of the said Henry, also of Robert Tanfelde attorney of the earl of Somerset, John Bere of the earl of Salisbury and the said Alice, and William Overton of the earl of Westmerland assigned to the said duke, Joyce and Henry to their purparty 45l. 12s. 5d. a year of a fee farm of 90l. issuing from Kyrkestall abbey, and on 23 January aforesaid ordered the then escheator in Yorkshire to take of them security for payment of their relief at the exchequer, in their presence or in presence of their attorneys to make a partition of that yearly sum into three equal parts, and to give them seisin of their respective purparties, sending the partition to be enrolled in chancery; and that escheator returned that a partition was made, and that 16l. thereof was allotted to the said Joyce.

To the treasurer and the chamberlains for the time being. Order to pay to Margaret duchess of Somerset, late the wife of John duke of Somerset, 166l. 13s. 4d. a year for life and the arrears since the duke's death; as by letters patent of 19 December last the king granted the duchess that of all castles, lordships, manors, towns, lands, fees, advowsons, annuities, liberties and possessions whereof the duke was seised in fee or fee tail, which were seised into the king's hands by his death or by force of any inquisition taken by virtue of writ of diem clausit extremum or other command of the king, or otherwise to the king belonging, whereof by law she was dowable, she might make special and particular suit and have livery of her dower after the return of every inquisition or by other means special or general, and that such livery should have the same force as if complete livery had been made her according to the course of other law, with all issues and profits of possessions so assigned to her from the duke's death, any grant to her made by the king before that date notwithstanding; and on 1 February last the king ordered the escheator in Middlesex to take of her an oath etc., and in presence of the next friends of Margaret daughter and heir of the duke, or of their attorneys, to assign her dower of all such castles etc., with the issues and profits aforesaid, and he returned that he did assign to her 166l. 13s. 4d. with the issues etc. as the third part of an annuity of 500l. issuing from the exchequer which the duke held in fee tail, to him and the heirs male of his body.
March 16.

To the escheator in Herefordshire and the march of Wales adjacent. Order to give William Burley, son and heir of John Burley, seisin of the lands of his father, and of those of his heritage which were held for life by Alice who was wife of Richard Arundell knight; as he has proved his age before the escheator, and for 10s. paid in the hanaper the king has respited his homage and fealty until Michaelmas day next.
June 3.
Westminster.
To the chief butler of England, or his deputy in the port of Suthampton for the time being. Order to deliver to the prior and convent of St. Mary Suthwyke co. Suthampton, of the foundation of the king's forefathers and of his patronage, two pipes of red wine of Gascony a year which the king has granted in almoin to them and their successors of his wines in that port for their relief. June 4.
Westminster.
To the farmers, tenants and occupiers for the time being of a farm of 10l. a year of Arnall otherwise Arnhale, otherwise Arnhall co. Notyngham. Order to pay that farm every year to Ralph lord Cromwell during his life, and to pay him the arrears since 4 February 16 Henry VI; as by letters patent of 17 March 20 Henry VI the king granted the same from 4 February aforesaid to the said Ralph, his heirs and assigns.

To the sheriff of Somerset and Dorset for the time being. Order every year to pay to Robert Cokes the king's serjeant, one of the yeomen of the crown, 6d. a day during his life, and to pay him the arrears since 10 May 22 Henry VI, on which day in consideration of his good service the king by letters patent granted him for life for the fee of the crown 6d. a day of the issues, profits and revenues of those counties.

Order to the sheriff of Suthampton for election of a verderer in the New Forest instead of William Soper, upon an information that he is too sick and aged to travail for exercise of that office.

Order to the sheriff of Suthampton for election of a verderer of the forest of West Beare, instead of John Fauconer, upon an information that he has no lands within the bounds of that forest, and dwells not within the same.

Order to the sheriff of Derby for election of a coroner instead of Robert Tykkyll, who is insufficiently qualified.
April 20.

To the bailiffs of Norhthampton for the time being. Order every year to pay their wages to William Neweman and John Neweman the king's serjeants and to the longest liver, and to pay them the arrears thereof since 12 April last, on which date the king by letters patent granted them for their lives etc. the office of 'swanherde' throughout the river Thames, and all rivers and members thereof, and all others between Gravesende and Cicestre, to be occupied by themselves, their deputies or deputy with wages of 4d. a day of the fee farm of the said town, subject to a proviso that no prejudice to any person should be caused by virtue of that grant.

To the sheriff of Notyngham and Derby for the time being. Order every year to pay to Thomas Babham the king's serjeant 6d. a day during his life, and to pay him the arrears since the death of James Lye; as the king has granted him for life to be one of the yeomen of the crown, taking for wages from the death of James Lye 6d. a day of the issues and profits of those counties.

Order to pay to Andrew Kebbyll the king's serjeant, controller of the pipes of the exchequer at Westminster, 10l. a year for life and the arrears since Michaelmas last; as the king has granted him for life from that date 10l. a year by their hands.

To the keeper of the great wardrobe for the time being. Order to give (the said) Andrew livery of one gown a year for life; as the king has granted him his yearly livery of raiment against Christmas as the engrosser of the exchequer rolls has.
