Indenture of award by Robert Wyngefelde knight and William Jenney to whom William Brandoun esquire and Elizabeth his wife of the one part and Thomas Caundysshe esquire of the other part did submit themselves touching the title and possession of the manor of Grymston and all personal actions, plaints and debates between them, namely that Thomas Caundysshe shall hold the manor to him and his heirs quit of the said William and Elizabeth, except that she shall have her dower thereof, namely that Thomas Caundysshe shall divide the manor into three parts, and William and Elizabeth shall choose one part for her dower, that thereupon they shall by charter indented demise their estate therein to Thomas Caundysshe and his heirs subject to a yearly rent of 9 marks payable to them during the life of the said Elizabeth, that the said William Caundysshe (sic) shall pay them 16 marks for two years past since the death of John Loueney late the husband of Elizabeth, they making the said Thomas allowance for the value of cattle of the tenants of the manor by them taken, that Robert Wyngefelde and other the feoffees of the manor shall make a release thereof to Thomas Caundysshe as that which they had by feoffment of John Bacheler or any of his heirs, that the said William and Elizabeth shall aid him to recover rents thereto pertaining, and deliver to him all evidences concerning the same which have ever come to their hands, and that they shall present to the church of St. Martin Tremeley at the next vacancy, and never after. Request to admit to their house the king's servant William Baroun the younger, son of William Baroun the elder esquire one of the tellers in the receipt of the exchequer, whom the king is sending to them, and immediately after the decease of William the elder, who at the king's request has a corrody otherwise maintenance for life within that abbey, to minister the same to William the younger for life as fully as William the elder or any before him had at request of the king or any of his forefathers, making him letters patent under the common seal of the house with mention of what he shall take, and writing again by the bearer what they will do.

William Gascoigne of Welles, being solely seised of a third part of the manor of Neuton Plecy otherwise 'Northneuton' co. Somerset sometime of John Garton esquire, to the church of St. Andrew Welles, John Forest the dean and the chapter thereof, and to their successors. Charter indented tripartite with warranty, for the health of his soul and the souls of Richard Bruton sometime canon of the said cathedral church, William Gascoigne late of Bruggewater, his parents, friends and benefactors hereinafter mentioned, the health of the king, of John Reynalde, John Storthwayt, Richarde Chocke, Hugh Kene and Agnes his wife, their souls after death and the souls of the faithful departed, for maintenance of a chaplain to celebrate masses and other offices in the chapel of an 'almeshouse' in 'Beggerstrete' Welles new built at the cost of Nicholas Bubwith late bishop of Bath and Wells, for relief of four and twenty poor men therein dwelling and their successors, and for an anniversary to be kept in the church of St. Cuthbert Welles on 3 April every year, or on the next vacant week day if Easter day or other feast shall fall on 3 April so that it may not then be conveniently kept, for the souls of the said Richard Bruton, William Gascoigne of Bruggewater, his parents etc., of 10 marks yearly rent issuing from the said third part, payable by himself and his heirs in the said church of Welles, namely 5 marks at Michaelmas day, 20s. at Christmas day, 26s. 8d. at Easter day and 20s. at Midsummer day. Covenant that if the same be eight weeks in arrear they shall pay 20s. in name of a pain; and covenant by the dean and chapter that the said chaplain shall have 6s. 8d. to distribute on the said anniversary, namely, to the vicar of St. Cuthbert being there present 4d., to every other chaplain and clerk present 2d., to himself 8d., to the master of the town to oversee the anniversary 8d., to the wardens of the church goods for ringing of the bells 8d., and the residue for the poor of the said house, to their commons; that the chaplain shall be chosen by the donor so long as he shall live, nominated to the dean and chapter and by them admitted; and if he be deprived, and after the decease of the donor at every vacancy a chaplain shall be chosen and admitted by them and their successors, and after admission shall every day before beginning mass say in English, 'Ye shall pray for the good estate of the kynge, peas and prosperite of this reame, William Gascoigne of Welles and Johane his wyfe, Hugh Kene and Auneys his wyffe, the deane and chapitre of Welles, the maister and cominalte of Welles, John Reynalde, John Storthwayte and Richard Chocke and for the souls of bisshop Nicholl Bubwith foundour of this place, Richard Bruton and William Gascoigne of Bruggewater foundours of this masse, Thomas Gascoigne, Richard Penyfader, William Poulet, Robert Burgh, her fader and moder soules, brether and suster soules and all the good doers soules of this place, and all cristen soules, Pater noster and Ave Maria,' and that if they shall cease to maintain the said chaplain and pay for the said anniversary, unless it be in default of payment of the rent and pain aforesaid or for the donor's delaying his nomination, the payment of rent and pain shall cease for the time being, and the donor, his heirs or assigns shall not be impleaded, distrained or grieved for non-payment thereof.
