Westminster.
William Daysterre of Berton Sacy co. Suthampton, chaplain, to William Leyghton chaplain. Recognisance for 50s., to be levied etc. in the county aforesaid.

John archbishop of Canterbury and papal legate to the king. Grant, in consideration of his urgent need and the vast sums of money he has spent and is daily spending for defence of the realm and church, of 2s. in the pound of the goods of men of religion and others who by letters of the king have obtained that they are not bound to contribute to payment of the tenth, which levy the clergy of the province of Canterbury at their last convocation in the church of St. Paul London did grant to the archbishop for defence of the church of England, payable at the feast of the Annunciation next, excepting the king's colleges of St. Mary Eton and St. Nicholas Cantabrigge, the college of All Souls in Oxford, the college at Oxford and near Winchester of the foundation of William Wykham, the religious of the house of the Holy Saviour, St. Mary and St. Bridget Syon of the order of St. Augustine, of the house of Jesus of Bethlem Shene, of the house of the Salutation of the Virgin in the suburbs of London of the Carthusian order, and all other houses of that order within the said province. Roger Pedwardyn esquire to Katherine Pedwardyn his sister and to the heirs of her body, with remainder to John Markham one of the king's justices and to the heirs of his body, and rever sion to the said Roger and his heirs. Confirmation indented of her estate for life in the manor of Clypston, called 'Pedwardyn maner' co. Northampton with reversion to the said Roger; and quitclaim with warranty of the reversion thereof. Hugh Swynflete of Kyngeston upon Hull 'gentilman' to Thomas Fulthorp justice, master Thomas Kirkeby clerk, Richard Anson and Richard Flynton of Kyngeston aforesaid, their executors and assigns. Gift of all his goods within the realm and elsewhere, and all debts to him due. Dated Kyngeston upon Hull, 30 January 21 Henry VI.
Hugh Swynflete of Kyngeston upon Hull to Thomas Fulthorp justice, master Thomas Kirkeby clerk, Richard Anson and John Brygg chaplain, their heirs and assigns. Charter with warranty of all his lands, rents, reversions, services, woods etc. in Kyngeston upon Hull and elsewhere in Yorkshire. Witnesses: John Bedford, Robert Holme, Hugh Cliderhow, John Hanson, Nicholas Elys, John Harreson, John Welbour. Dated (as the last).
Memorandum of acknowledgment of the foregoing writing and charter at Kyngeston upon Hull 12 May this year before the prior of the house of St. Michael of the Carthusian order by Kyngeston aforesaid, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.
William abbot of St. Mary Sulleby co. Northampton of the Premonstratensian order and the convent to Henry prior of the house of the Visitation of the Virgin called the 'Pryours of the Wod' in the Isle of Axiholm co. Lincoln of the Carthusian order and the convent, and to their successors. Indenture of lease with warranty for a hundred years of the manors of Wode by Melwode and Thurnholm in the said isle with all profits etc., and all other their lands, rents, reversions, services, pannages, fisheries, waters, mills, the profits and liberties thereto pertaining, fealties, suits of court of their tenants there and elsewhere in Lincolnshire and at Stokwyth co. Notyngham etc., rendering to the lessors and their successors 8l. a year at Monks Kyrkeby co. Warwick so long as the priory of Monks Kyrkeby shall be in the lessees' hands, or at Melton Moubray in case the same shall be recovered out of their hands, and discharging the lessors toward the king of all tenths, tallages and imposts, and toward the chief lords of all customs and services; covenant by the lessees to pay 20s. in name of a pain if the rent be two months in arrear, with power to the lessors to distrain in all their manors, lands etc., and if one year in arrear again to enter and hold the premises in their first estate, also that during the said term the lessors be not bound to pay to the prior of Kyrkeby and to his successors a yearly rent of 2s. 6d. which they used to render on Maundy Thursday. Dated 31 October 1449.
Memorandum of acknowledgment at Sulleby 14 May before Thomas Bughton and John Horne, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.
Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 150l., made in chancery at Leycestre 1 June 28 Henry VI by Thomas Stanley knight, Robert Fulleshurst, Richard Towneley the younger esquires and Thomas Hoo 'gentilman' for John Troutebeke esquire, and of an undertaking by him under a pain of 400l., that he shall appear in person in chancery in the quinzaine of Trinity next to answer the king touching what shall be laid against him, and from day to day until from the court dismissed.

At which day the said John did appear, and a day was given him until the quinzaine of St. Martin next upon the same mainprise and undertaking; and at that day he did appear, and a day was likewise given him until the quinzaine of St. Hilary next; and at that day he did appear, and for that then and divers other times proclamation was made for any who could say wherefore he should not be dismissed from court, and no man said aught against him, he was dismissed without a day.
