To the escheator in Herefordshire and the marches of Wales

give him livery of the rent hereinafter mentioned, and the profits
thereof taken; as it is found by inquisition, taken before the
escheator, that Roland Lenthale knight at his death held no
more lands etc. in the said county and marches than those specified
in the inquisitions post mortem, but that long before his death he
was seised of a yearly rent of 20l. to be taken to him and his
assigns of the issues, profits and revenues of the county by the
sheriff's hands, that by letters patent, dated Westminster 3 June,
20 Henry VI, in recompense for the priory of Wotton cos. Warwick and Worcester, the manors of Monkelane co. Hereford,
Westwortham co. Norffolk and Molkeley, co. Warwick and
other lands, rents, services, portions, pensions, procurations,
woods, mills, waters, ways, fisheries, knights' fees, advowsons
etc. to the said priory and manors pertaining within the realm,
and all revenues etc. thereof, the liberties, privileges, rights etc.
therewith used of old time, all which were of old time parcel of
the possessions of the alien abbey or house of Conches in the
late king's hands, not exceeding the value of 40l. a year, and by
him given by letters patent of 20 April, 7 Henry V, to the said
Roland his knight and William Burley esquire, both then living,
and to others therein named who were dead on 3 June aforesaid,
their heirs and assigns, by the service of rendering one rose at
Christmas (sic) for all services, rendering nought else, and for
that the said Roland, to whom, his heirs and assigns, William
Burley made a quitclaim of the premises the manor of Munkelane
excepted, gave up those letters patent in chancery to be cancelled,
the king granted to him, his heirs and assigns, by name of Roland
Lenthale his knight, 20l. a year as aforesaid, that by charter
dated Hereford 31 May, 28 Henry VI, by name of Roland Leynthale knight, without licence of the king he granted that rent

Oldcastell and Nicholas Eyton esquire yet living, Hugh Carew
now deceased, and Richard Wyn' yet living, their heirs and assigns,
that Hugh Carew died thereof so seised, that by letters patent,
dated Westminster 15 November, 31 Henry VI, the king pardoned
Richard bishop of Salisbury, Henry Oldcastell, Nicholas Eyton
esquires and Richard Wyn' for their trespass in purchasing the
same without his licence, and gave them licence to grant the said
rent to John Leynthale esquire and to the heirs of his body, with
remainder to Eleanor his sister and to the heirs of her body,
remainder to Elizabeth her sister and to the heirs of her
body, remainder to Katherine their sister and to the heirs of her

rent is held of the king by one rose only for all services. |
