Indenture between Cicely 'lady marquis Dorset,' late wife of Thomas late marquis Dorset, and Thomas now marquis Dorset, her son and heir apparent and son and heir of the late marquis. Whereas the king, 'intendyng to see and sette the seid parties atte unyte and peas of and for almaner of variance, controversies, matters and causes dependyng betwene theym,' summoned them to appear before him together with Thomas earl of Surrey, treasurer of England, Richard bishop of Winchester, Giles Dawebeney knight lord Dawebeney his chamberlain, Sir John Fyneux knight chief justice of the King's Bench and Thomas Frowyck knight chief justice of 'the comen place' and others of his Council, the parties agreed in their presence as follows: Cicely shall receive the issues of all lands etc. appointed by the late marquis for performance of his will till the will is performed, accounting therefor to the archbishop of Canterbury; thereafter Thomas shall have such of these lands as are of his father's inheritance, assigning reasonable dower to her within three months of his entry, and she shall have such as are of her inheritance for life without impeachment of waste, with descent thereafter to Thomas and the heirs of her body; and all parties seised of these lands shall stand seised to the above uses. Before 13 July next she shall do her best to ensure all the said lands assigned for performance of her husband's will, those charged with the 500 m. and the residue of those of her inheritance, besides those extended at 1,000 m., by feoffment etc. to William archbishop of Caunterbury, Thomas archbishop of Yorke, Richard bishop of Winchester, Geoffrey bishop of Lychefeld and Coventry, George earl of Sheresbury, Henry earl of Northumberland, Edward Hastynges lord Hastynges, George Nevill lord of Bergevenny, Charles Herbert lord Herbert, Thomas Darcy lord Darcy, Edward Dudley lord Dudley, John Arundell, Robert Poyntz and Ralph Sherley knights, and Anthony Poyntz, Anthony Wyngfeld, William Hastynges, John Stanley, Richard Hastynges and William Skevynton esquires and their heirs to the uses aforesaid and to the use that Thomas shall leave to his next heir of his body all that shall come to him of her inheritance with remainder to her right heirs. It shall be lawful, notwithstanding the premises, for her to make the usual grants for years or life of any part of her inheritance, reserving the ancient rents, and also grants by copy of court roll according to the custom of the several manors and grants of office etc., such grants to hold good without interruption by Thomas or his heirs. All the inheritance that descends to Thomas from any of his ancestors shall descend after his death to the heirs of his father's body, except that he may sell as much as may be necessary to pay a ransom for his body or to bring him out of other great danger; and he shall make a feoffment etc. to the above use before 13 July to the aforesaid feoffees. If Thomas should die before Cicely without heir male, all the above uses shall be void; if he should so die leaving heir male, then the feoffees shall stand seised of the said residue of lands of her inheritance to the use for life of lord Henry Stafford brother to the duke of Buckingham, whom she intends to marry, with remainder to her heirs. Memorandum that on 4 Nov., 20 Henry VII, John Islip abbot of Westminster came publicly and in person between 9 and 10 a.m. into Chancery at Westminster and there before William archbishop of Canterbury, Chancellor, and others of the Chancery, holding in his hands his part of the original indenture made with the king, took a solemn oath on the Gospels in the terms therein specified (see No. 389, xiii).

Indenture between the king and Edmund prior of St. Mary's monastery of Lanthony by Gloucester and the convent of the same. Whereas Humphrey Bohun late earl of Hereford, Essex and Northampton and constable of England died seised of the patronage and advowson of the monastery as of the earldom of Hereford, leaving as coheirs his daughters Mary and Eleanor, of whom Mary married Henry then (sic) earl of Lancaster and Derby, afterwards king Henry IV, and Eleanor married Thomas then earl of Stafford, and in the Parliament of 9 Henry V (fn. 22) it was ordained that all patronages and advowsons of abbeys, priories etc. late of the said earl of Hereford in grosso should remain to the king and his heirs as part of his purparty and all hereditaments allotted thereto should be annexed to his duchy of Lancaster, since when the said convent on the death of a prior has been wont to seek the king's licence by letters patent under the duchy seal to elect a successor; and whereas the priory of Lanthony in Wales by licence of Edward IV was annexed to the said priory; the said prior and convent now acknowledge the king and his successors to be the patrons and founders of both priories by right of the duchy of Lancaster and bind themselves and their successors not to proceed to the election of a new prior without the king's licence first obtained in form as above.
