PRAYERS.
Lord Mansel takes his Seat.
Thomas Lord Mansel sat first in Parliament, after the
Death of his Grandfather Thomas Lord Mansel; his
Lordship having, at the Table, taken the Oaths, and
made and subscribed the Declaration, and also taken
and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the
Statutes.
Bishop of Bristol to preach 30th Instant.
Ordered, That the Lord Bishop of Bristol be, and
he is hereby, desired to preach before this House, in
the Abbey Church, Westminster, on Friday the 30th
Day of this Instant January.
Bishop of Chichester to preach 4th February.
Ordered, That the Lord Bishop of Chichester be,
and he is hereby, desired to preach before this House,
at the same Place, on Wednesday the 4th Day of February
next; being the Day appointed by His Majesty's Royal
Proclamation for a General Fast.
Sir William Barker against Jevers.
A Petition of Sir William Barker Baronet, was presented, and read; praying, "In regard Mr. Hamilton,
One of his Counsel, is lately taken ill; that the Hearing of the Petitioner's Appeal, which stands for this
Day, may be put off to such Time as the House shall
think fit."
And thereupon the Agents on both Sides were called
in, and heard at the Bar.
And being withdrawn:
Ordered, That the said Hearing be put off to
Monday next; and the Cause appointed for that Day be
put off to the next Cause-day in Course.
Frigg & al. peremptorily to answer McKattie's Appeal.
The House was informed, "That John Frigg and
James Fraser have not put in their Answer to the Appeal of Peter McKattie, though duly served with the
Order of this House for that Purpose."
And thereupon an Affidavit, made by Thomas Anderson
Writer in Edinburgh, of the due Service of the said
Order, being read:
It is Ordered, That the said Respondents do peremptorily put in their Answer to the said Appeal, in
a Week.
Eve. Superiori, Nat. Bill.
The Lord Bishop of Glocester reported from the Lords
Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for
naturalizing Eve Superiori alias Smith," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill, and
examined the Allegations thereof; which they found
to be true; and that the Committee had gone through
the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the
House, without any Amendment."
Ordered, That the said Bill be engrossed.
Pitcairn to amend his Appeal.
A Petition of Alexander Pitcairn of Woodhouselie
Gentleman, was presented, and read; praying Leave
to amend his Appeal, by inserting therein the Name of
Charles Areskine Esquire, a Party Appellant for His
Majesty's Interest; the Petitioner amending the Respondent's Copy; and that the said Respondent may be
ordered to put in his Answer peremptorily to the said
Appeal.
And thereupon an Affidavit, made by Henry Balcanquall of Edinburgh Writer, of the due Service of the
Order for answering, being read:
Ordered, That the Petitioner be at Liberty to
amend his said Appeal, as desired; he amending the
Respondent's Copy; and that the Respondent do peremptorily put in his Answer thereunto, in a Week.
Veitch against Carruthers.
A Petition of William Veitch Gentleman, was presented, and read; praying, "In regard the Parties are
desirous to have the Matter of the Petitioner's Appeal amicably determined; that the same, which stands
to be heard on Friday next, may be put off to such
distant Day as to this House shall seem meet."
And thereupon the Agents on both Sides were called
in, and heard at the Bar.
And being withdrawn:
Ordered, That the Hearing of the said Cause be
put off to Wednesday the 25th Day of February next.
Coppin & al. Petition referred to Judges.
Upon reading the Petition of John Coppin the Elder,
of Market-Cell, in the County of Hertford, Esquire,
William Pittman Clerk, Minister or Curate of the Chapel
lately built and founded at Market-Street, in the said
County, John Howard, Schoolmaster of the School
founded at Market-Street aforesaid, and of Sir John
Napier Baronet, Sir Samuel Garrard Baronet, John Crawley Esquire, Thomas Ashby Esquire, Peter Warburton
Esquire, John Coppin the Younger Esquire, Son of the
said John Coppin the Elder, William Hatfield, Vicar of
the Parish Church of Cadington, in the said County of
Hertford, Richard Byrchmore, Daniel Seare, Edward
Taylor, William Wescombe, William Taylor, Charles Scare,
and John Goddes; praying Leave to bring in a Bill,
for carrying a Proposal into Execution, for making the
said Chapel a perpetual Cure and Benefice; and that
the said School may, after the Death of the present
Schoolmaster, be annexed to the said Curacy for ever,
with a Power to the Petitioner William Pitman only,
during his Life, to appoint an Usher or Assistant to the
said School, if he should think it necessary:
It is Ordered, That Leave be given to bring in a
Bill, as desired.

The House being informed, "That Mr. Thomas Hartley attended, in order to deliver in several Papers
and Proceedings, in the Cause wherein Packington
Edgworth Esquire and Mary Edgworth are Appellants, and Edward Edgworth Esquire is Respondent:"
Pleadings proved.
He was thereupon called in; and delivered, at the
Bar, the said Papers and Proceedings; and attested upon
Oath, "The same were true Copies, he having examined them with the Originals in the proper Offices
in Ireland."
And then he was directed to withdraw.
