E. of Bath takes the Oaths.

William Earl of Bath took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes; his Lordship having first delivered a Certificate of his receiving the Sacrament, to the Truth whereof Witnesses were sworn and examined.

Woodley against Cue:

The House being informed, "That Walter Sweetman attended, in order to deliver in Copies of Papers and Pleadings, relating to a Cause depending in this House, wherein Francis Woodley Esquire is Appellant, and John Cue and others are Respondents."

Pleadings proved.

He was called in, and delivered the same at the Bar; and attested upon Oath, "They were true Copies, he having examined them with the Originals in the proper Offices in Ireland."

And then he withdrew.

Shrewsbury to Wrexham and Chester, and other Roads, Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to enlarge the Term and Powers of an Act for repairing the Road from Shrewsbury to Wrexham in the County of Denbigh; and to repair and widen several other Roads therein mentioned, and the Road from Wrexham to Chester, and from thence to Penn Fordd y Waen in the Parish of Whitford, and also the Road from Broughton to Mold in the County of Flint."

Woollen Manufactures, Combination of Workmen to prevent, Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to render more effectual an Act passed in the Twelfth Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King George, to prevent the unlawful Combination of Workmen employed in the Woollen Manufactures, and for better Payment of their Wages; and also an Act passed in the Thirteenth Year of the Reign of His said late Majesty, for the better Regulation of the Woollen Manufacture, and for preventing Disputes among the Persons concerned therein; and for limiting a Time for prosecuting for the Forfeiture appointed by the aforesaid Act, in case of the Payment of the Workmen's Wages in any other Manner than in Money."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the whole House.

Ordered, That the House be put into a Committee upon the said Bill, on Monday next.

Causes postponed.

Sheffield and Ecclesall Courts Baron, Bill.

Whereas To-morrow is appointed, for the House to be in a Committee on the Bill, intituled, "An Act for regulating the Proceedings in Personal Actions, in the Courts Baron of the Manors of Sheffield and Ecclesall, in the County of York."

Shaftesbury and Sherborne Roads, Bill.

The Earl of Warwick reported from the Lords Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for explaining, amending, and making more effectual, an Act of Parliament, made in the Twenty-sixth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, intituled, An Act for repairing and widening the Road from the Top of White Sheet Hill in the Parish of Donhead Saint Andrew in the County of Wilts, through the Towns of Shaftesbury, Milbourne Port, and Sherborne, in the Counties of Dorset and Somerset, to The Halfway House in the Parish of Nether otherwise Lower Compton in the said County of Dorset, and several other Roads near the Towns of Shaftesbury and Sherborne aforesaid, and for repairing other Roads adjoining to the Roads in the said former Act mentioned," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; and that the Committee had gone throught the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Islington to Paddington, Road, Bill:

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable the respective Trustees of the Turnpike Roads leading to Highgate Gatehouse and Hampstead, and from Saint Giles's Pound to Kilbourne Bridge, in the County of Middlesex, to make a new Road, from the great Northern Road at Islington to the Edgeware Road near Paddington, and also from the North End of Portland Street, cross The Farthing Pye-house Fields, into the said new Road; and for enlarging the Terms and Powers granted by Two several Acts, for repairing the said Road from Saint Gile's Pound to Kilbourne Bridge."

After some Time, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Delawarr reported from the Committee, "That they had gone through the said Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Then it was moved, "That the said Bill be read the 3d Time on Monday next."

And it being also moved, "That the same be read the 3d Time on Friday next:"

Richmond to Lancaster, and other Roads, Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Conyers Darcy and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for explaining and making more effectual an Act, passed in the Twentyfourth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, for repairing the Road leading from the East End of Brumpton High Lane in the County of York, to the Town of Richmond, and from thence, to and through the Towns of Aiskrigg and Ingleton in the said County, to the Town of Lancaster, in the County of Lancaster; and also for repairing the Road leading from the Town of Richmond aforesaid, through Gilling, Melsonby, and Aldbrough, to Lucy otherwise Lousy Cross, and from Gilling, through Gilling Town Lane, to the Turnpike Road on Gatherly Moor;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

E. of Peterborow's Bill:

The Earl of Warwick reported from the Lords Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for vesting the Manor of Dantsey and Hundred of Chippenham, and divers Messuages, Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, in the County of Wilts, late the Estates of Charles Earl of Peterborow and Monmouth, deceased, in Trustees, for raising a certain Sum of Money for the Purposes therein mentioned," was committed: "That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; that the Parties concerned had given their Consents, to the Satisfaction of the Committee; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Messages from H. C. to return Lady Bulkeley's Bill;

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Lyster and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for carrying into Execution several Contracts, made by or on the Behalf of James late Lord Bulkeley in the Kingdom of Ireland, in his Life-time, for the Sale of several Lands and Tenements in the County of Chester; and for applying the Purchase-money to discharge Encumbrances affecting the same;" and to acquaint this House, that they have agreed to the same, without any Amendment.

and the Constables, &c. for Westminster, Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir John Phillips and others:

To return the Bill, intituled, "An Act for appointing a sufficient Number of Constables, for the Service of the City and Liberty of Westminster; and to compel proper Persons to take upon them the Office of Jurymen, to present Nuisances and other Offences within the said City and Liberty;" and to acquaint this House, that they have agreed to their Lordships Amendments made thereto.

Sheffield and Ecclesall Courts, Baron, Bill.

The Earl of Warwick (according to Order) reported the Amendments made by the Committee of the whole House to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for regulating the Proceedings in Personal Actions in the Courts Baron of the Manors of Sheffield and Ecclesall, in the County of York."

And the said Amendments, being read Twice by the Clerk, were agreed to by the House; and are as follow:

"Pr. 40, L. 38. After ["Courts Baron"], insert ["who, at the Time of such Appointment, shall be of the Degree of an Utter Barrister at Law, of Three Years standing at the Bar at least."].

"Pr. 43, L. 11. After ["void"], insert Clause (A).

"(A) Provided always, and be it Enacted, by the Authority aforesaid, That the present Stewards of the said respective Courts Baron, and their Deputy or Deputies, within Six Months next after the said 24th Day of June 1756, and all and every succeeding Steward and Stewards of the said Courts Baron, and their respective Deputy and Deputies, within Six Months next after his or their Appointment, shall, at a General Quarter Session of the Peace for the West Riding of the County of York, take and subscribe the Oaths appointed to be taken in and by an Act of Parliament made in the First Year of the Reign of His late Majesty King Gearge the First, intituled, "An Act for the further Security of His Majesty's Person and Government, and the Succession of the Crown in the Heirs of the late Princess Sophia, being Protestants; and for extinguishing the Hopes of the pretended Prince of Wales, and his open and secret Abettors," in such Manner and Form as in and by the said Act is directed; and shall also, within the Times aforesaid, respectively receive the Sacrament of the Lords's Supper according to the Usage of the Church of England, and make and subscribe the Declaration against Transubstantiation, according to an Act of Parliament made in the Twenty-fifth Year of the Reign of King Charles the Second, intituled, "An Act for preventing Dangers which may happen from Popish Recusants;" and in Default of taking the said Oaths, or of receiving the Sacrament, or of making and subscribing the said Declaration, in the Manner and within the Times aforesaid, respectively, every such Steward and Deputy so offending shall incur such Penalties, Forfeitures, and Disabilities, as by the said several Acts are respectively enacted and inflicted."

The Order of the Day being read, for the 3d Reading of the Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable the respective Trustees of the Turnpike Roads leading to Highgate Gatehouse and Hampstead, and from Saint Giles's Pound to Kilbourne Bridge, in the County of Middlesex, to make a new Road, from the great Northern Road at Islington to the Edgeware Road near Paddington, and also from the North End of Portland Street, cross The Farthing Pye-house Fields, into the said new Road; and for enlarging the Terms and Powers granted by Two several Acts, for repairing the said Road from Saint Giles's Pound to Kilbourne Bridge:"

The said Bill was accordingly read the 3d Time.

And it being moved, "To adjourn the further Consideration of this Bill till this Day Two Months:"

The same was objected to.

After Debate;

The Question was put, upon the said Motion.

It was Resolved in the Negative.

Then the Question was put, "Whether the said Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Richmond to Lancaster, and other Roads, Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for explaining and making more effectual an Act passed in the Twenty-fourth Year of the Reign of His present Majesty, for repairing the Road leading from the East End of Brumpton High Lane in the County of York, to the Town of Richmond, and from thence, to and through the Towns of Aiskrigg and Ingleton in the said County, to the Town of Lancaster in the County of Lancaster; and also for repairing the Road leading from the Town of Richmond aforesaid, through Gilling, Melsonby, and Aldbrough, to Lucy otherwise Lousey Cross, and from Gilling, through Gilling Town Lane, to the Turnpike Road on Gatherley Moor."
