PRAYERS.

The Lord Windsor is added to the Committee for the Bill concerning Mr. Cartwright's Estate.

Writs of Error brought in.

The Lord Chief Justice of the Court of King's Bench brought in Two Writs of Error, in the usual Form:

John Messenger Plaintiff, and Mark Taunt Defendant.

John Shillingford Plaintiff, and John Palmer Defendant.

L. Cromwell reproved, for granting Protections.

This Day the Lord Cromwell was present.

And the House demanded an Account of him, "Why he hath granted Protections to Persons who are not his menial Servants, and so not capable of the Privilege of Parliament ?"

Several Persons were instanced, to whom his Lordship had given such Protection; as, John Farrington, John Millner, and John Cooke.

The general Standing Order concerning Protections was read.

And the Lord Chancellor asked the Lord Cromwell, "Why his Lordship granted these Protections, contrary to the aforesaid Order?"

His Lordship said, "He did not hear of nor know of the said Order before now; and, expressing that he was very sorry for transgressing of it, promised he would be careful for the Time to come, not to give any Protections contrary to their Lordships Order; and that he would revoke those he had already given."

Order concerning Protections.

ORDERED, That the Committee for Privileges shall consider of preparing something fit to be published, declaring the Sense and Purport of the Standing Orders of this House, relating to the Privilege of Parliament; which Committee is to meet on Thursday next, in the Afternoon.

The Earl of Dorset, Earl of North'ton, and the Lord Delawarr, are added to the Committee for Privileges.

Message from H. C. with Coke's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Wright and others; who returned a Bill formerly sent down, intituled, "An Act to supply the Defects in a Deed of Settlement made by John Coke Esquire, deceased, and for altering a Trust in Part of the Estate of Rob't Coke Esquire;" in which Bill the Commons have made some Amendments: To which Amendments they desire their Lordships Concurrence.

The said Amendments were read Thrice, and Agreed to (fn. 1)
