The Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas sat Speaker this Day, in the Absence of the Lord Chancellor.

E. Carnarvon and L. Norris take the Oaths.

This Day Charles Earl of Carnarvon and James Lord Norris took the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, and made and subscribed the Declaration in Pursuance of an Act for the more effectual preserving the Person of His Majesty and His Government, by disabling Papists from sitting in either House of Parliament.

Thomson's Papers to be delivered to Commissioners of Bankrupts.

Upon reading the Petition of Francis Dashwood, Christopher Tooley, and other Creditors of James Thomson; shewing, "That they have a Commission of Bankrupt against him, and praying that such Bonds of his as are now in the Custody of the Clerk of the Parliament may be delivered to them;" and upon Perusal of the said Commission of Bankrupt:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Lords Committees for examining Papers are hereby appointed to deliver unto the Commissioners of Bankrupts against the said James Thomson such Bonds and other Papers of the said James Thomson, now in the Custody of the Clerk of the Parliaments, as their Lordships shall think fit.

Jennison to have Access to his Son in Newgate.

The Lord Bishop of Durham acquainted the House, "That Mr. Jennison, Father to Thomas Jennison, a Prisoner in Newgate, is come to Town, and is at Door, to attend their Lordships Pleasure:"

Who being called in, the Speaker told him, "That the House took Notice of his good Intention of coming to Town, to try whether he can prevail with his Son to discover what he knows concerning the horrid Design against the Person of His Majesty and the Government."

And thereupon made the ensuing Order:

"Whereas John Jennison, Father of Thomas Jennison now Prisoner in Newgate, being come to Town, hath appeared this Day at the Bar, and undertaken to use his utmost Endeavour to prevail with his said Son to confess and make Discovery of what he knows, concerning the horrid Design against His Majesty's Person and Government: It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said John Jennison, and also Mr. Smith a Kinsman of his, be, and are hereby, authorized and permitted to have free Access to the said Thomas Jennison in Newgate as often as they, or either of them, shall see Cause; and they are to give this House an Account concerning this Matter: And this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

"To the Keeper of Newgate, his Deputy and Deputies, and every of them."

Smith, a Proselyte, to give Satisfaction of his Conversion to the Bp. of Durham.

Upon the Desire of Mr. Jennison, "That one Mr. Smith, who is lately come off from being of the Church of Rome, and hath taken the Oaths of Allegiance and Supremacy, that he may be permitted to preach:"

It is ORDERED, That the said Mr. Smith do attend the Lord Bishop of Durham, and give him Satisfaction of the Reality of his Conversion and Abilities; and, upon his Lordship's Report, this House will consider what Directions to give therein.

L. Fitzwalter excused.

This Day Stephen Lushington and John Wallington, Servants to the Lord Fitzwalter, gave the House an Account upon Oath, "That his Lordship is at present so sick of a Fever, that he is not able to attend this House without Danger of his Life."

Which Excuse the House allowed.

Supply Bill, for disbanding Forces from Abroad.

The House was adjourned into a Committee during Pleasure, to proceed in the Consideration of the Bill for granting a Supply to His Majesty, for disbanding the Army.

The House being resumed;

The Earl of Aylesbury reported, "That the Committee do find some Difficulty in the understanding of a Clause in the said Bill, therefore the Committee desires they may have the Opinion of the Judges now present therein."

Which the House gave Leave to.

Then the House was again adjourned into a Committee.

The House being resumed;

The Earl of Aylesbury reported, "That the Committee have proceeded in the said Bill, and desire Leave to sit To-morrow Morning in a Committee again."

Which was ordered accordingly.
