PRAYERS.

London and Westm. to be cleared of Papists.

The House was adjourned into a Committee, to consider of the clearing of the Cities of London and Westminster from Popish Families.

In order thereunto, to consider the Report of the Judges concerning the State of the Laws in that Case.

The House was resumed.

Then the Earl of Bridgwater reported, "That the Committee of the whole House have been in Consideration of the Way and Means of clearing the Cities of London and Westm. from Popish Families; and the Opinion of the Committee is, That it be referred to the Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas and Mr. Attorney General, to draw up a Bill, in Pursuance of their Lordships Debate, making Use of a Bill which was in Consideration the last Parliament, for putting out of London and Westm. Papists of particular Trades, adding or leaving out what they think fit; and that they present the same to this House with what Expedition they can."

To all which this House agreed, and ordered the same accordingly.

Securing the Protestant Religion.

Then the House was again adjourned into a Committee, to consider of the securing the Protestant Religion.

The House being resumed;

The Earl of Bridgewater reported, "That the Committee is of Opinion, That the Clerk of the Parliaments do give this House an Account, To-morrow Morning, what Bills, Proceedings, or Votes of the House, or at any Committees, have been agitated the last Parliament, concerning securing the Protestant Religion, that so their Lordships may proceed the more clearly in this Business."

Which the House ordered accordingly.

Papers concerning the Plot to be methodized.

ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Committee for Examinations, taking to their Assistance the King's Counsel, do put the Papers now before them into such a Method, to be sent to the House of Commons, that this House may have a Report thereof on Tuesday Morning.

Capt. Spalding's Papers referred to a Committee.

Upon Report made by the Lord Bishop of Landaffe, of some Depositions taken in Pursuance of an Order of this House, concerning Captain Francis Spalding, late Deputy Governor of Chepstow Castle:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Papers be referred to the Consideration of the Lords Committees for examining Matters relating to the Discovery of the late horrid Conspiracy, to proceed thereon as their Lordships shall see Cause.

Prosser's Bail to be attached.

Whereas Benedict Prosser, who is a Prisoner under Bail, was, by Order of the 20th Instant, to be taken into Custody, and brought to the Bar by the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, who hath given an Account, "That, notwithstanding his utmost Endeavour, he cannot find the said Benedict Prosser, who abscondeth in Places unknown:"

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Serjeant at Arms attending this House, or his Deputy or Deputies, do forthwith attach the Bodies of Mr. Redwood and Mr. Glascock (who are Bail for the said Benedict Prosser), and bring them in safe Custody to the Bar of this House; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

To Sir Geo. Charnock Knight, Serjeant at Arms attending this House, his Deputy and Deputies, and to all His Majesty's Officers Civil and Military, to be aiding and assisting in the Execution hereof.

Weld removed from his Government of Portland Castle.

The Lord Gerard reported, "That he hath presented the Address of this House to His Majesty, concerning Mr. Humphrey Weld: And His Majesty commanded him to return this Answer, That His Majesty hath already appointed another Person to be Governor of Portland Castle, in the Place of Mr. Weld."

Lady Smith & al. released upon Bail.

Upon reading the Petition of Dame Mary Smith, the Widow of Sir Thomas Smith, of Sproxton, in the County of Leycester; shewing, "That she and Three of her Children (not being satisfied that they may take the Oaths) have been for several Weeks imprisoned in the common Gaol at Nottingham, to the Ruin of her Estate, and Decay of her Health, being very aged and infirm:"

Upon Consideration had thereof, it is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Mary Smith, giving Security, or Bail, before some Justice of the Peace for the County of Nottingham, that she and her Daughter Martha will reside quietly at her own usual Dwelling-house, and appear upon any Summons, be, and are hereby, discharged from their present Imprisonment for the Cause aforesaid; and this shall be a sufficient Warrant on that Behalf.

To the Gaoler or Keeper of the Prison at Nottingham, his Deputy and Deputies, and every of them.

Adjourn.
