Message from H. C. for a Conference, concerning Privateers, Bill.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons,
by Sir John Bowles and others:
To desire a Conference, upon the Subject-matter of
the Amendments made by this House to the Bill, intituled, "An Act for prohibiting all Trade and Commerce
with France, and for the Encouragement of Privateers."
To which the House agreed.
Answer.
And the Commons, being called in, were told, "That
the Lords agree to a Conference, as desired; and appoint it to be on Monday next, at One of the Clock,
in the Painted Chamber."
Regulations necessary for the Establishment of an East India Company.
Whereas this Day was appointed for the Consideration
of the Report made from the Lords Committees appointed to consider of the Charters of the East India
Company, and what other Regulations may be requisite
for establishing an East India Company:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Report shall
be considered on Tuesday next, the First Business after
Twelve o'Clock.
French Goods, additional Duties on, Bill:
Hodie 3a
vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for
granting to His Majesty an additional Duty upon all
French Goods and Merchandize."
The Question was put, "Whether this Bill shall
pass?"
It was Resolved in the Affirmative.
Message to H. C. that the Lords agree to it.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by
Sir John Francklyn and Mr. Pitt:
To let them know, the Lords have agreed to the said
Bill, without any Amendment.
Jones versus Shakerley:
After hearing Counsel, at the Bar, upon the Petition
and Appeal of Hugh Jones Junior, Gentleman, from
an Order of Dismission, in the Court of Chancery, the
Twelfth Day of December, in the Third Year of the
Reign of His late Majesty King James the Second, on
the Behalf of Hugh Jones Senior, and Sir Jeffrey Shakerley; as also upon the Answer of Sir Jeffrey Shakerley
put in thereunto:
Judgement reversed.
After due Consideration of what was offered thereupon, it is ORDERED and Adjudged, by the Lords
Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That
the Order of Dismission complained of in the Petition
and Appeal of Hugh Jones Junior, shall be, and is
hereby, set aside and reversed: And it is further ORDERED, That Sir Jeffrey Shakerley shall re-convey the
Estate or Tithes in Question unto Hugh Jones Junior,
pursuant to the Articles dated the Tenth of April, 31°
Car. Secundi, upon the said Hugh Jones' paying Sir
Jeffrey Shakerley the Sum of Eighty Pounds Principal
Money, with Interest for the same; that Sir Jeffrey
Shakerley shall accompt for the Profits of One Moiety
of the Tithes during the Life of Hugh Jones the Father, and for the Profits of the Whole since his
Death.
