insure Lands purchased by Thomas Wharton Doctor in
Physic, in the County Palatine of Durham;" to
which they desire their Lordships Concurrence.
The Earl of Dover is added to the Committee for
Petitions, and Vicecomes Mountagu is added to the Committee for Mr. Skynner.
Bill against Atheism, Swearing, &c.
This Day being appointed to debate the Bill against
Atheism and Prophaneness, with the Amendments and
Alterations, by a Committee of the whole House; the
House was accordingly adjourned into a Committee
during Pleasure.
And, after a serious Debate, the House was resumed.
The Lord Chamberlain reported, "That the Committee of the whole House have spent this Morning
in Debate of the Bill against Atheism, &c. and do
desire that another Day may be appointed to resume
the said Debate by the Committee of the whole
House; against which Time the Committee have appointed a Sub-committee to consider and search what
Laws, or what Remedy by Law, are now in Force
to punish the Crimes mentioned in the Bill, who are
to report what they find to the Committee of the
whole House at the next Meeting."
Upon this, the House ORDERED, That, on the Second
Day of Sitting after Easter, the Debate of this Bill
shall be resumed in a Committee of the whole House;
and that some of the Judges now in Town shall attend
the said Sub-committee, to assist them therein, on Monday
next, at Three of the Clock in the Afternoon, in the
Prince's Lodgings.
Wood, Jackson, & al. released.
Whereas Robert Wood, Samuell Jackson, and Robert
Dimis, now in the Custody of the Serjeant at Arms
attending this House, for throwing down the Posts,
Bars, and Gates, and cutting the Banks through in
divers Places, to let in the Sea upon the Lands of the
Earl of Lyndsey, Lord Great Chamberlain of England,
in January last, contrary to the Privilege of Parliament,
and using contemptuous Words against the said Earl,
have submitted themselves unto his Lordship, and,
being sorry for their said Offences, beg the Pardon of
this House:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, at the Intercession of the Lord
Great Chamberlain of England on their Behalf, That
the said Robert Wood, Samuell Jackson, and Robert Dimis,
be, and are hereby, discharged from their present Restraint for the said Offences, paying their Fees due to
the Officers of this House; and this shall be a sufficient
Warrant on that Behalf.
Adjourn.
