This Day Lodovicus Duras, Chevalier, being created
Lord Duras de Holdenby, was introduced in his Parliament Robes, between the Lord Bellasis and the Lord
Berkeley de Stratton; the Lord Great Chamberlain of
England, the Earl Marshal of England, and Garter
King at Arms, going before.
His Lordship having delivered his Patent of Creation
and Writ of Summons to Parliament to the Lord High
Chancellor of England, and he delivering the same to
the Clerk of the Parliaments, were read; the Patent
bearing Date the 29th Day of January, in the 24th
Year of King Charles the Second; and the Writ of
Summons bearing Date the First Day of February, in
the 25th Year of the Reign of King Charles the Second: Which being done, he was brought and placed
at the lower End of the Barons Bench.

His Majesty being present this Day, and sitting in
His Royal Throne, adorned with His Regal Ornaments
(the Peers sitting in their Robes uncovered), the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod was commanded by
His Majesty to let the Commons know, "That it was
His Majesty's Pleasure that they come up presently,
to attend His Majesty."
Who being come, the Lord Chancellor of England,
by Direction of His Majesty, made this short Speech
following:
Commons directed to choose a Speaker.
"My Lords; and you the Knights, Citizens, and
Burgesses of the House of Commons;
"His Majesty hath commanded me to tell you,
that He hath many Things to say to you; but He
thinks not this a proper Time, but will defer it till
the House of Commons be completed with a new
Speaker; for His Majesty hath, since the last Sefsion, as a Mark of His Favour to His House of Commons, and that He might reward so good a Servant,
taken their late Speaker Sir Edward Turner to be
Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer, and called him
by Writ to be an Assistant to this House. I am
therefore commanded to acquaint you, Gentlemen
of the House of Commons, That it is the King's
Pleasure, you repair to your House, and elect a discreet, wise, and learned Man; who, after he hath
been by you presented, and that Presentation admitted by His Majesty, shall then possess the Office
of your common Mouth and Speaker. And the
King is pleased to be here To-morrow in the Afternoon, to receive the Presentment of him accordingly."
After this, His Majesty departed; and the Commons
went to their House.

Order to prevent Stoppages in the Streets.
ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, That the Order of this
House, made on the 30th of October, 1669, for preventing Stoppages in the Streets of Westm. be, and
is hereby, renewed; and that the Lord Steward of His
Majesty's Household (as he is High Steward of the
City of Westm.) be, and is hereby, desired to take
special Care that the said Order be put into due Execution.
