vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for settling
the Estate of Charles now Lord Cornwallis, and to
enable him to raise Money, for Payment of Debts,
and providing for his Brothers and Sister."
Report concerning Barwis' Examination.
Mr. Justice Newman and Mr. Justice Filmer gave the
House an Account, "That they have examined John
Barwis, according to their Lordships Order Yesterday, concerning a Paper found by him; and they do
not find that the Boy is guilty of any Design concerning that Paper."
King to be attended about the Fast.
The Lord Treasurer reported, "That he and the
other Lords have waited on His Majesty, to know
what Time both Houses should attend His Majesty, to
present Him with the Petition concerning the Fast;
and His Majesty hath appointed To-morrow in the
Afternoon, at Three of the Clock, in the Banqueting House at Whitehall, for that Purpose.
Message to H. C. about it.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by
Sir Thomas Beversham and Sir Tymothy Baldwin:
To let them know, that His Majesty hath appointed
To-morrow in the Afternoon, at Three of the Clock,
in the Banqueting House at Whitehall, to receive the
Petition of both Houses concerning the Fast.
L. Campden versus Puleston & al. Privilege.
Upon reading the Petition of Baptist Vicecomes
Campden, a Peer of this Kingdom; complaining against
John Puleston Gentleman, Owen Thelwall Esquire,
Edward Hughes, John Rogers, and Thomas Francis,
who (with divers others) did in August last past, in the
Time of the Adjournment of the Parliament, in a
riotous and illegal Manner, dispossess his Lordship's
Servants and Tenants of the Tithes and Tenths of
Corn, and other Tithes, belonging to him, with the
Townships of Abinbury-Vaux, and other Places, in the
County of Denbigh, mentioned in the said Petition,
and beat and imprisoned his said Servants, as in the
said Petition and the Affidavits thereto annexed is alledged:
It is thereupon ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said
John Puleston, Owen Thelwall, Edward Hughes, John
Rogers, and Thomas Francis, be, and are hereby, required to appear at the Bar of this House, within
Fourteen Days next after Notice given them by the
serving them with this Order respectively, to answer to
the Complaint of the said Petition; whereof they may
not fail.
Barret versus Loftus.
Whereas there is a Petition of D'acre Barret depending in this House, complaining of an Order and
Judgement of the Lords in Parliament, made on the Third
of May, 1642, and other Matters therein contained,
to which Petition the now Lord Viscount Loftus in the
Kingdom of Ireland was, by Order of this House,
dated the 21th Day of February last, to put in an
Answer in Writing at the Bar, within One Month next
after Notice given to him of the said Petition, and a
Copy thereof:
It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and
Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Lord
Viscount Loftus be, and is hereby, required to put in his
Answer to the said Petition, in Manner aforesaid, on
Tuesday the Tenth Day of February next, at Ten of the
Clock in the Forenoon; whereof the said Petitioner is to
cause timely Notice to be given to the said Lord Viscount Loftus for that Purpose.
Ly. O Brian to amend her Petition concerning the Barony of Clifton, of Leighton Bromswold.
Upon Report made by the Earl of Berks, from the
Lords Committees for Privileges, &c. "That, upon their
entering upon the Consideration of the Petition of
Catherine Lady Obrian, concerning her Claim to the
Barony of Leighton Bromswold, referred to their Lordships by this House, the said Petition appearing to have
a Defect in it, their Lordships desire the Directions of
this House, that the said Lady Obrian might have
Leave to withdraw and amend her said Petition:"
It is thereupon ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual
and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said
Lady Obrian may withdraw and amend her said Petition, and present it to the said Lords Committees on
Thursday next, at Three of the Clock, in the Afternoon, who are to proceed thereupon, as they were empowered to proceed on the former Petition referred to
them by this House.
Dawson versus Jeaffreson, in Error.
Upon reading the Petition of Richard Dawson;
shewing, "That he is Plaintiff in a Writ of Error now
depending in this House, to which John Jeafreson is
Defendant, whereon the said Plaintiff hath assigned
Errors; and prayeth, That a Time may be appointed
for the said Defendant to hear Errors argued, and receive the Judgement of this House thereupon:"
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That this House will
hear the said Errors argued, by Counsel, on both
Sides, at the Bar, on Tuesday the 27th Day of this
Instant January, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon;
whereof the said Plaintiff is to cause timely Notice to
be given to the said Defendant, to the End he may be
ready at the Time aforesaid.
Manner of taking the Oath of Allegiance.
Next, the House perused the ancient Precedents for
the Manner of the Lords taking the Oath of Allegiance.
And the House, being satisfied with the Precedents,
resolved to proceed in the same Manner.
To that Purpose, the House ordered to be presently
adjourned; to begin the taking the Oath of Allegiance.

This Day, after the Adjournment of this House,
the Lords Spiritual and Temporal whose Names are
under written did, in the Presence of the Lord Keeper
and a competent Number of the Lords of His Majesty's
Privy Council, kneeling at the Woolsack whereupon
the Lord Keeper sits, take the Oath of Allegiance
provided and mentioned in the Parliament A° 3° Regis
Jacobi.
The Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod held the
Bible, and the Clerk of the Crown read the Oath.
The Lord Keeper of the Great Seal took it alone
by himself.
