Lady O Brian's Claim to the Barony of Clifton, of Leighton Bromswold.

Upon Consideration had of what hath been offered at the Bar by His Majesty's Learned Counsel, as also the Counsel of the Lady O Brian, concerning her Claim to the Barony of Clifton, of Leighton Bromswold:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Judges present this Day shall be attended by the Lady Obrian's Agent, with her Petition of Claim, the Writ of Summons to Parliament, and the Report of His Majesty's late Attorney General, now Lord Keeper of the Great Seal of England, made in this Case; whereupon the said Judges are to give their Opinions in this House on Monday next, being the 26th Instant, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

L. Cornwallis's Bill.

The Earl of Alisbury reported, "That the Lords Committees for the Bill concerning the Lord Cornwallis have considered the said Bill; and, having heard all Persons therein concerned, have thought fit to make a small Alteration therein, which they offer to the Consideration of the House."

The said Alteration, being read Twice, was Agreed to; and then the said Bill was ordered to be engrossed, with the Alteration.

Order for keeping clear the Painted Chamber, Lobbies, &c. about this House.

Upon Report made this Day from the Lords Committees appointed to consider of the Privileges of the House of Peers, &c. concerning the Means of keeping good Order in the Painted Chamber, and the Passages and Lobbies belonging to the House of Peers, "That their Lordships have perused the former Orders of this House made in the like Case, and do find, That the Charge of keeping good Order in those Places belongeth to the Care of the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod attending this House, together with the Yeoman Usher, and other Under Officers and Doorkeepers:"

Upon Consideration whereof, it is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Painted Chamber, and the Lobby between it and the House of Peers, as also all the Lobbies belonging to the House, shall, by the Care of the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod attending this House, the Yeoman Usher, and Door-keepers, be kept clear from all Footmen, and all other Persons not having Business with the Lords (except such Gentlemen and Pages as attend the Lords and their Assistants); and that no Persons be covered when any Peer is there; and that no Person, unless such as have Occasion to speak with some of the Lords, be admitted further than the Painted Chamber; and also, that the Knight Marshal's-men appointed to attend this House do take Care to keep the Stairs and Avenues to the House of Peers, and also the Court of Requests, clear from Disturbance, by Footmen or any other Persons: And it is further ORDERED, That the Lord Great Chamberlain be, and is hereby, desired to take Care, and give Charge to the said Gentleman Usher and Yeoman Usher, and their Under Officers and Door-keepers, as also to the said Knight Marshal's Men respectively, to see that these Orders be duly observed: And lastly it is ORDERED, That the Orders relating to the Painted Chamber, Lobbies, Court of Requests, and Stairs, &c. shall be affixed to the Doors belonging to the House, that all Persons concerned may take Notice thereof.

Order against Lords answering in the House of Commons.

Upon Report made this Day from the Lords Committees appointed to consider of the Privileges of the Peers of this Realm, and Orders and Customs of the Lords House of Parliament, to whom was referred the examining of what hath been the Practice in former Times, in Cases of Lords desiring Leave to appear and answer Accusations in the House of Commons, "That their Lordships have searched and perused several Precedents; and thereupon conceive that it may deeply intrench into the Privileges of this House, for any Lord of this House to answer an Accusation in the House of Commons, either in Person, or by sending his Answer in Writing, or by his Counsel there:"

Upon serious Consideration had thereof, and Perusal of the said Precedents in this House, it is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That, for the future, no Lord shall either go down to the House of Commons, or send his Answer in Writing, or appear by Counsel, to answer any Accusation there, upon the Penalty of being committed to the Black Rod, or to The Tower, during the Pleasure of this House: And it is further ORDERED, That this Order be added to the Roll of the Standing Orders of this House, that the Lords may the better take Notice of the same.

E. of Shrewsbury's Trustees, L. Brudnell, & al. versus The Duke of Bucks.

Whereas this House had appointed to hear Francis Lord Brudnell and others, Petitioners, complaining against George Duke of Bucks (fn. 1) and Anna Maria Countess of Shrewsbury, to make out their Proofs of the Matters complained of in the said Petition, To-morrow Morning:

It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petitioners be, and are hereby, appointed to make out their said Proofs, at the Bar of this House, on Wednesday the Twenty-eighth Day of this Instant January, at Ten of the Clock in the Forenoon.

Court of Requests Windows to be glazed.

ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That it be, and is hereby, recommended to the Lord Great Chamberlain, humbly to move His Majesty from this House, That He would please to give Order for the Glazing of the Windows in the Court of Requests.
