SOUTH CERNEY
(3 miles S.E. of Cirencester)
A Romano-British burial in a lead coffin, discovered in a gravel pit in 1941 (TBGAS, 76 (1957), 157–60), has no precise location. The coffin is lost.
(1) Enclosure and Parallel Ditches (SU 053986), undated, on South Cerney airfield, show as crop-marks. The precise direction of the parallel ditches could not be plotted with certainty; they are irregular, about 90 ft. apart and 1,400 ft. long. The enclosure lies on the N. of the ditches. Some other ditches may be of recent origin. Plan, p. 106.

(2) Rectangular Enclosure (SU 05599830), undated, on the S. side of Northmoor Lane, shows as a cropmark about 90 ft. by 40 ft., with a gap in the S. side.
