STROUD

(11 miles W. of Cirencester)

Roman pottery, including large unabraded pieces of samian and coarse wares, together with iron slag, was found in 1866 when West Grange House (SO 85000557) was being built; (fn. 1) the finds are in Stroud Museum. Ten Roman coins of the 3rd and 4th centuries, chance finds made in a wide area centred on Cashe's Green (SO 828056), are also in the museum. A coin of Allectus is in Gloucester City Museum.
