PRAYERS.
Commodore Norris's Petition, to be restored to his Command by Favour of the House:
Upon reading the Petition of John Norris; shewing,
"That he is suspended, by His Majesty's Command, from
his Employment, pursuant to the Address of this
House, and ready to attend their Lordships according
to Order; and praying, that he may be restored to
the Favour of this House, in order to serve the King
and Kingdom in such a Station as His Majesty shall
think most proper in this Conjuncture:"
Captain Desborow and him to be heard.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, That a Copy of the Address of
this House, of the Seventeenth of April One Thousand
Six Hundred Ninety-nine, shall be delivered to the
said John Norris; and that he shall be heard, at the Bar
of this House, on Tuesday next, at Eleven of the Clock;
and that Captain Desborow do then also attend; and
they have hereby Leave to bring such Witnesses as they
shall think fit.
Jermyn, Leave for a Bill.
Upon reading the Petition of Stephen Jermyn; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for settling Five Thousand
Pounds in the Chamber of London, and the Proceed
thereof, in Trustees, for the Benefit of his Younger
Children:
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, That the Petitioner hath hereby
Leave to bring in a Bill, as desired.
Norris and Desborow's Witnesses.
It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal
in Parliament assembled, That the Commissioners for
executing the Office of Lord High Admiral of England
do issue out their Orders of Summons, to Captain Cranby,
Captain Cleasby, Captain Trevanion, and such others as
Captain John Norris shall desire to be summoned as Witnesses on his Behalf, to attend this House, on Tuesday
next, at Eleven of the Clock in the Forenoon; and the
like Orders to be issued for such Witnesses as Captain
Desborow shall desire to be summoned on his Behalf.
Countess of Anglesey's Petition against her Husband for Cruelty:
The House took into further Consideration the Countess of Anglesey's Petition:
And, after Debate, it is ORDERED, by the Lords
Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That
the Debate shall be adjourned till Monday next, at
Eleven of the Clock.
Then, it being proposed, "That the Earl of Anglesey would name some Lords, to go to his Lady,
and endeavour to persuade her to return to his Lordship:"
Whereupon his Lordship named the Earl of Rochester,
Lord Ferrers, Lord Haversham, and Lord Sommers.
And then the following Order was made; (videlicet,)
Lords to mediate a Roconciliation.
"It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Earl of Rochester, Lord Ferrers, Lord Haversham, and Lord Sommers, do go to the Lady Anglesey, and endeavour to
persuade her to return to her Husband; and in order
thereunto, to let her know, "That the Earl of Anglesey
has declared he is ready to receive her; and, upon
her Submission and good Behaviour, will treat her
with Kindness, and in all Cases she shall be safe from
any Violence:" But if they cannot prevail, then to
report to the House her Ladyship's Reasons for such
her Refusal."
