PRAYERS.
Message from H. C. to apply to the King for a Fast;--and to remind the Lords of the Bills against Popery and Sectaries.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons,
by Sir Francis Godrich and others; who desired their
Lordships Concurrence in this Order following:
"ORDERED, by the Lords and Commons assembled
in Parliament, That His Majesty be humbly moved,
That He would be pleased to appoint a Day of Humiliation, to deplore the Sins of the Nation, and to
implore GOD's Mercy for Diversion of His Judgements,
and particularly of this unseasonable Weather."
Agreed to.
Further, the Commons desire their Lordships would
take into Consideration Two Bills formerly brought,
which are of great Concernment to the Nation; videlicet,
The Bill against the Growth of Popery.
The other, to prevent the unlawful Meeting of
Sectaries, &c.
The Answer returned was:
Answer.
That this House doth concur with the House of Commons in the Order for moving the King for a Day of
Humiliation; and their Lordships do intend to appoint
some Lords to acquaint His Majesty with the Desires of
both Houses therein.
Concerning the Two Bills they mention; this House
hath read both of them, and will proceed therein as
Bills of such Importance do require.
Messages from H. C. with Bills.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons,
by the Lord Bruce and others; who brought up a Bill,
intituled, "An Act to explain and supply a former
Act, for Distribution of Threescore Thousand Pounds
amongst the truly loyal and indigent Commission Officers; and for assessing of Offices, and distributing
the Monies thereby raised for their further Supply; whereto their Lordships Concurrence is desired."
A Message was brought from the House of Commons,
by the Earl of Ancram and others; who brought up a
Bill for taking away of Damage Clear, whereto they
desire their Lordships Concurrence.
Marq. of Winton's Bill.
ORDERED, That the Committee for the Bill of the
Marquis of Winton and the Lord St. John do meet on
Monday next, at Three of the Clock in the Afternoon.
Ld. Gerard versus Fitton, Granger, & al.
Whereas the original Paper delivered into this
House by Edward Lloyd, and signed by Abraham Granger (intituled, "A Narrative of the horrid and detestable Design of the Lord Gerard against A. G.
Gr. in compelling him to swear against Mr. Alex.
Fitton"), is, by the Judgement of this House, declared and adjudged to be a false, odious, and infamous
Libel, against the Person and Honour of the Lord
Gerard Baron of Brandon, a Peer of this Realm and
Member of Parliament:
Libel to be burnt.
It is this Day ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and
Temporal in Parliament assembled, That Two Copies of
the said Libel, which are to be signed by the Clerk of
the Parliaments, shall be burnt, One in The New Pallace
Yeard at Westm. by the Hand of the Common Hangman, by the Directions and Appointment of the Sheriffs
of London and Midd. in that Behalf; and the other in
the Market-place of the City of Chester, by the Direction and Appointment of the Mayor of the said
City, at such Times as the said Lord Gerard shall appoint.
And it is further ORDERED, That the said original
Libel, intituled, "A Narrative, &c." shall not be entered into the Journal Book of this House amongst the
Records; but shall remain in the Custody of the Clerk
of the Parliaments until the said Lord Gerard shall demand it of him, and then the Clerk of the Parliaments
is hereby authorized to deliver the same to his Lordship.
It is lastly ORDERED, That this Order, and the Judgement of this House bearing Date the Ninth Day of this
Instant July, shall be forthwith printed and published,
by such Person or Persons as the Lord Gerard shall appoint and direct, for the fuller Vindication of his
Lordship.
Horn Castle and Wildmore Fen.
Upon the Petition of the Freeholders and Owners
of Land within the Soke of Horn-Castle, in the County of Lyncolne, and Commoners in Wildemoore Fenn:
It is ORDERED, That Sir John Prettyman and such
others as are therein concerned shall shew Cause, by
their Counsel, on Tuesday next, why an Order of this
House, dated the Third of June last, complained
against by the said Inhabitants, should not be revoked; or else, in Default thereof, the said Order is
hereby vacated and made void to all Intents and Purposes.
Bill against Sectaries.

unlawful Meetings of Sectaries, Non-conformists, and
Diffenters from the Church of England."
ORDERED, That the further Debate upon this Bill
shall be adjourned until Tuesday Morning next.
