Gresham-College, Improvement of, Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the better enabling the Mayor, and Commonalty and Citizens of the City of London, and the Wardens and Commonalty of the Mystery of the Mercers of the said City, to pay the Charities given by the last Will and Testament of Sir Thomas Gresham."

Cholmondeley, Leave for a Bill, Nat.

Upon reading the Petition of George Cholmondeley Esquire, and Elizabeth his Wife; praying Leave to bring in a Bill for naturalizing of the Petitioner Elizabeth:

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Petitioners have hereby Leave given to bring in a Bill, as desired.

Jarman's Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for the vesting of Nine Messuages, in the Parish of St. Gyles's in the Fields, in the County of Middl'x, in Trustees, to be sold; and for settling, in Lieu thereof, a Messuage and certain Lands, in Whipsnade, Tottrenhoe, and Studham, in the County of Bedford."

Offices against buying and selling.

Then the House (pursuant to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee to consider of Heads for a Bill to prevent the buying and selling Offices.

And, after some Time spent therein, the House was resumed.

And the Lord Halifax reported, "That as to that Matter of keeping Records, it be referred to a Private Committee; and to empower that Committee to appoint Sub-committees, as they shall think fit; and to send for Persons, Papers, and Records; and report their Opinions therein."

To which the House agreed.

It is ORDERED, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That on Wednesday next, at Eleven a Clock, this House shall be put into a Committee again, to consider of Heads for a Bill to prevent the buying and selling Offices; and also to consider the Proceedings of the Courts below, in relation to the Tediousness of Suits, and the Prejudice of the Subjects thereby.

Records and Record Offices, Committee to consider of.

Lords Committees appointed to consider of the Methods of keeping Records in Offices, and how they are kept, and to consider of Ways to remedy what shall be found to be amiss; whose Lordships, having considered thereof, and sent for such Officers, and heard such Persons thereupon, as they shall think fit, are afterwards to report their Opinion thereupon to this House; and the said Committee have hereby Power to appoint a Sub-committee, to consider thereof, and inspect such Offices and Records as they shall think fit; and report to the Grand Committee.
