Gardener c. 1700-1827

The salary attached to this office was originally paid out of the contingent fund. Its holders can be identified only after 1700 when payment was transferred to the ordinary establishment. (fn. 1) The office was abolished in 1827. (fn. 2) The salary, originally £30, was raised to £40 in 1705. It was reduced to £20 in 1723 but raised once again to £30 in 1733. (fn. 3) An additional allowance of £30 in lieu of a house was provided in 1791. (fn. 4)
