Manager of Ticket Office 1673-4

The Ticket Office was usually managed by one of the members of the Navy Board. (fn. 1) But in February 1673 the distinct office of Manager of the Ticket Office, to which appointment was made by Admiralty warrant, was created at a salary of £300 for the duration of the Third Dutch War. (fn. 1) The office was discontinued in March 1674. (fn. 1)

The management of the Ticket Office was taken out of the hands of the Controller in December 1668, when Brouncker, the Controller of Treasurer's Accounts, was ordered to take over the work (Adm. 2/1746 f. 22). He resigned in December 1672 because the business of the Office was becoming too onerous to combine with his other duties, and was replaced by an Extra Commissioner, Seymour (Adm. 2/1735 f. 75).

  • 3. In October 1674 the management of the Ticket Office was again entrusted to an Extra Commissioner, Haddock (Adm. 2/1740 pp. 224-5). Haddock, who in 1682 was appointed Controller, carried out the duty until May 1692 when the management of the Ticket Office was attached to the recently revived office of Controller of Treasurer's Accounts (Adm. 2/172 pp. 193-4).
