NONCONFORMITY.
Although only one nonconformist was listed in Westonbirt in 1676, (fn. 1) at least 21 persons were presented in the 1680s for either not attending church or not receiving the Easter communion. (fn. 2) One of the farmers in 1710 was a Quaker (fn. 3) and Westonbirt had 3 Presbyterians in 1750. (fn. 4) In 1773 a house in Westonbirt was registered for use by dissenters (fn. 5) but no meeting was recorded there in 1825. (fn. 6) A group of Congregationalists met in Westonbirt under a Stroud minister in 1861. (fn. 7)
