PRAYERS.

The Earl of Shaftesbury sat Speaker by virtue of a former Commission.

Metropolis Police Act, Petition from St. Marylebone for Relief from.

Upon reading the Petition of the Vestrymen of the Parish of Saint Marylebone, in Vestry assembled, whose Names are thereunto subscribed; praying their Lordships to relieve this suffering Parish from the distressing Weight of the New Police Rate, an Impost which is felt to be so oppressive, needless and unjust, that the Petitioners are fearfully apprehensive it will not be much longer obtained without having Recourse to such painful Measures as their Lordships must be anxious to avoid:"

It is Ordered, That the said Petition do lie on the Table.

Soldiers Families Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Bernal and others;

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to repeal several Acts for enabling the Wives and Families of Soldiers, and the Widows and Families of deceased Soldiers, to return to their Homes;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be printed.

Militia Pay Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Bernal and others;

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to defray the Charge of the Pay, Clothing, and contingent and other Expences of the Disembodied Militia in Great Britain and Ireland; and to grant Allowances, in certain Cases, to Subaltern Officers, Adjutants, Paymasters, Quartermasters, Surgeons, Assistant Surgeons, Surgeons Mates and Serjeant Majors of the Militia, until the First Day of July One thousand eight hundred and thirty-three;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a Second Time on Thursday next.

Arms, &c. Act Continuing (Ireland) Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Bernal and others;

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to continue for One Year, and from thence to the End of the then next Session of Parliament, several Acts relating to the Importation and keeping of Arms and Gunpowder in Ireland;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be read a Second Time on Thursday next.

Linen, &c. Manufactures (Ireland) Bill reported:

The House (according to Order) was adjourned during Pleasure, and put into a Committee upon the Bill, intituled, "An Act for the better Regulation of the Linen and Hempen Manufactures of Ireland."

After some Time, the House was resumed:

And The Earl of Shaftesbury reported from the Committee, "That they had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Ordered, That the said Bill be read the Third Time on Thursday next.

Appropriation of Duties (Newfoundland) Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to continue certain Acts relating to the Island of Newfoundland, and to provide for the Appropriation of all Duties which may hereafter be raised within the said Island."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the Whole House.

Ordered, That the House be put into a Committee upon the said Bill on Thursday next.

Newfoundland Fisheries Bill.

Hodie 2^a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to continue, until the Thirty-first Day of December One thousand eight hundred and thirty-four, an Act of the Fifth Year of His late Majesty, relating to the Fisheries in Newfoundland."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to a Committee of the Whole House.

Ordered, That the House be put into a Committee upon the said Bill on Thursday next.

Marqs of Londonderry's Estate Bill.

The Earl of Shaftesbury reported from the Lords Committees, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for settling certain Manors and Estates in the County of Durham to the Uses of the Marriage Settlement of The Most Honorable Charles William Vane Marquis of Londonderry and The Most Honorable Frances Anne Vane Marchioness of Londonderry his Wife; and for other Purposes therein mentioned," was committed; That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which were found to be true; that the Parties concerned had given their Consents to the Satisfaction of the Committee; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and made several Amendments thereto."

Which Amendments, being read Twice by the Clerk, were agreed to by the House.

Ordered, That the said Bill, with the Amendments, be ingrossed.

West India Colonies, Address for Papers respecting.

Ordered, That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty, to request that His Majesty will be graciously pleased to order that there be laid before this House, "A Copy of the Despatch, dated the 10th December 1774, from The Earl of Dartmouth to Sir Basil Keith, Governor of Jamaica, with Memorials from London, Bristol and Liverpool, on the Subject of an Act passed by the Assembly of Jamaica in that Year, imposing a Duty on each Slave imported:"

Also, "The foregoing Memorials:"

Also, "Report of the Board of Trade upon the Subject of the foregoing Act:"

Also, "Additional Despatch or Instruction, dated the 3d March 1775, to Sir Basil Keith:"

Also, "Letter, dated the 12th June 1775, from Sir Basil Keith to The Earl of Dartmouth:"

Also, "Letter, dated the 6th November 1775, from Sir Basil Keith to The Earl of Dartmouth:"

And also, "Instructions to the Governors of the West India Colonies, requiring them to withhold their Assent to any Act imposing additional Duties on the Importation of Negroes."

Ordered, That the said Address be presented to His Majesty by the Lords with White Staves.
