Prayers.
The Grand Committee of the whole House, according to former Order, met, concerning Matters of Religion.
Mr. Whittacre in the Chair.
Mr. Speaker resumed the Chair.
The House being informed, That the Sheriffs of London were at the Door;
They were called in: And Mr. Sheriff Gibbes acquainted the House, That, Yesterday, Mr. Recorder did intimate to the Lord Mayor, That Thursday was appointed for a Day of Thanksgiving: The Lord Mayor imparted it to the Court of Aldermen this Morning: Who, in the Name of the City, had sent them to make their humble Invitation of the Members of the Commons House to dine with them.
Resolved, &c. That this House doth accept of this Invitation from the City; and will dine with them on Thursday, as is desired.
The Sheriffs were again called in: And Mr. Speaker, by Command from the House, acquainted them, That the House had commanded him to return Thanks to the City; and to tell them, That they will come and dine with them, according to their Invitation.
The House being acquainted, That some of the Assembly of Divines were at the Door;
They were called in: And Mr. Marshall acquainted the House, That they were commanded, from the Assembly of Divines, to present this humble Petition or Request to the House.
Which was read; and ordered to be taken into Consideration on Monday next.
Ordered, That Mr. Tate do peremptorily make his Report concerning the Officers of the Armies that have been laid aside, To-morrow Morning.
Ordered, That the Ordinances for bringing in Monies, and the Recruiting and Renewing of Sir Thomas Fairfaxe's Army with Men, Arms, and Necessaries, be taken into Consideration To-morrow Morning.
